‘THE ALLAM LECTURE’ CONFERENCE EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT It gives me great pleasure to announce that the inaugural ‘Allam Lecture’ will take place on Friday 11 April 2014 in the Allam Lecture Theatre, University of Hull Business School, University of Hull We have an exceptional panel of world renowned guest speakers:The Allam Lecturer - Sir Magdi Yacoub - is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London and Founder and Director of Research at the Harefield Heart Science Centre (Magdi Yacoub Institute) overseeing scientists and students in the areas of tissue engineering, myocardial regeneration, stem cell biology, end stage heart failure and transplant immunology. Professor Peter Barnes FRS – is Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Head of Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute and Honorary Consultant Physician at Royal Brompton Hospital, London. He is an international authority in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He is one of the most highly acclaimed respiratory scientists in the world and has been the most highly cited clinical researcher in the UK over the past 10 years. Professor John Cleland – is the Chair in Clinical Cardiology and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College, London, and former Foundation Chair in Cardiology at the University of Hull. He is an international authority and speaker in cardiology with major research interests in the diagnosis, epidemiology, natural history and treatment of heart failure Professor Andrew Clark – is Chair of Clinical Cardiology and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist, Hull York Medical School, University of Hull. He is also a chair of the British Society for Heart Failure, and is a member of the working groups for Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Physiology in the European Society of Cardiology Professor Alyn H Morice – is Foundation Chair in Respiratory Medicine, Hull York Medical School, University of Hull and Interim Head of CCMR. He is the lead Consultant at the Hull Cough Clinic, the largest Cough Clinic in Europe. He is an international authority and speaker on cough. The meeting opens at 13:30 and closes at 18:30. Members of the public will be invited to attend from 17:00 on a ticket only basis. Call for Abstracts There will be a poster viewing session so if you wish to present your work we would like you to submit an abstract. Complete the abstract form on the website link following registration and please email to j.l.crawford@hull.ac.uk. The deadline for abstract submissions is Monday 17 March 2014. For those who submitted an abstract for last year’s CCMR Research Day, 26 November 2013, you can resubmit a modified version for the lay person as your audience will made up of both staff and general public alike.
