The Medical Research Council

The MRC invites proposals under the following programmes: improved measurement methods for population research - highlight notice. The council’s population and systems medicine board has identified a need for research that would lead to improved measurement of exposure/outcomes suitable for use in populations studies. Proposals are sought which through generalisable methods development research seek to strengthen the knowledge base or evaluation of the impact of complex interventions in health research. CALCIFIED TISSUE AWARDS

The European Calcified Tissue Society

The above Society invites applications from members for the following awards: PhD studentships.

Grants support PhD students conducting research relevant to calcified tissues and related topics.

Grants are worth 75,000 e uros (£63,854). RR id: 202804; Postdoctoral fellowships. These enable postdoctoral fellows to conduct projects on calcified tissues or related topics. Grants are worth up to 60,000 euros. RR id: 202409; Career establishment award. This enables newly-appointed faculty members to launch a successful research career. The fellowship is worth 40,000 euros. RR id: 253473; Bone biology fellowships in collaboration with Amgen. These support scientists in the field of bone biology. Awards are worth 125,000 euros. RR id: 253475; The Iain T Boyle award with the Alliance for Better Bone Health. This recognises young scientists who have made significant progress and contributions in the field of bone and calcified tissue. The prize is worth 5,000 euros. RR id: 253477.

MRC METHODOLOGICAL

RESEARCH

The MRC has issued a call for proposals to conduct methodological research to underpin National

Institute for Clinical Excellence decision making. The scope of the call reflects the breadth of issues and methodological research questions that have been highlighted within the scoping study commissioned by MRC to identify more precisely NICE’s methodological research needs. Up to

INFECTIOUS DISEASES

The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy
