MRC Neuroinflammation Workshop 10th February 2014 How can research into innate and adaptive immunity further understanding of neuroinflammatory conditions? What can immunologists bring to the study of neurodegenerative disease? Are you an early career immunologist with an interest in neurodegeneration? The Medical Research Council is holding a workshop in Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation on February 10th 2014 at the Royal College of General Practitioners, 30 Euston Square, London. The workshop aims to encourage new collaborations, raise awareness of cross cutting themes between immunology, inflammation and neuropathology, and to stimulate new ideas of how to approach the burgeoning challenge of neurodegenerative disorders through the immunological interrogation of neurodegenerative disease. The workshop will be chaired by Professor Hugh Perry and feature keynote speakers from the multiple sclerosis, innate immunity and clinical fields, as well as discussion sessions where attendees are encouraged to think broadly about how new approaches, technologies, model systems and ideas can shed light on complex neurodegenerative diseases. Dr Tony Wyss-Coray (Stanford University), Professor Alasdair Coles (Cambridge University) and Professor Jonathan Schott (UCL) will be speaking at the event, with further speakers to be confirmed. Staff from MRC Headoffice will be on hand to discuss future MRC funding opportunities during the networking sessions, and attendees will be encouraged to think broadly about the short and longer-term directions these integrated fields may take. To apply to attend, scientists with interests in inflammation and immunology and neurodegeneration are invited to submit an application form to MRC.EventsandCommitteesTeam@headoffice.mrc.ac.uk by 9th January 2014 (if you have not received an application form via email, please request one from the MRC Events & Committees Team). MRC is particularly welcoming applications from scientists in early career stages, such as those with fellowships or post docs developing fellowship proposals, ‘New Investigator Research Grant’ holders, early career lecturers, and scientists from industry. Due to the limited number of spaces available, MRC may have to select attendees from the applications received based on a balance of expertise and career stage.
