PART 2 PRODUCTS
Rails
Top and bottom rails will be selected from the options provided in this section. Rail sections will be of
extruded aluminum of 6063-T5 alloy and temper and dry-glazed. Dry-glazed rail may be a pressure
assembly utilizing a fitted EPDM gasket, or mechanical rail assemblies utilizing torqued fasteners and
gaskets to affix glass to the rail. Dry-glazed rails use precision-fit end caps in the finish to match the rail.
Glass
Glass will be (one of the following):
• 3/8" or 1/2" thick, fully tempered, clear, gray, bronze, or low iron.
• 3/4" thick, fully tempered, clear.
Glass will conform to requirements set forth by ASTM Specifications C1036 and C1048 for fabrication
and tempering. All exposed edges will be flat-polished to a reflective appearance similar to the glass
surface.
Finishes
All exposed surfaces will be free of scratches and other serious blemishes. Rail finishes will be (Select
one of the following):
• For extruded aluminum, an Architectural Class II clear anodic coating conforming with
Aluminum Association standards.
• An Architectural Class I color anodic coating, conforming with Aluminum Association
standards. Color: black.
• An Architectural Class I color anodic coating, conforming with Aluminum Association
standards. Color: dark bronze.
• A fluoropolymer paint coating conforming with the requirements of AAMA605.2. Color will
be (Specify):
• Stainless Steel clad using an alloy 304 finished as follows (specify one): polished or satin.
• Brass/Bronze clad finished (samples required) as follows (specify one): polished or satin.
Hardware
Hardware for tempered glass swing doors will be furnished by the glass door supplier. Hardware will be
the glass manufacturer’s standard as follows:
1. Handles:
2. Pivots:
3. Door Closers:
4. Locking Hardware:
5. Exit Devices:
For all above, specify manufacturer, model, style, type, finish, etc. as appropriate.
To ensure single-source responsibility and timely coordination, Oldcastle recommends the use of
hardware offerings in this section. The hardware has been selected on proven performance. Custom
hardware provided outside the scope of this product line will be provided as required but will extend the
manufacturing lead times. For custom hardware applications, call 1-866-653-2278 or log on to
www.oldcastleglass.com.
If lock cylinders for doors are to be master-keyed, it is suggested that cylinders be included under the
“Finish Hardware” section of specifications.
Editing notes – All Glass Swing Doors
Hardware Schedule references may be needed. Coordination of the selected hardware with All
Glass doors is needed to confirm that the specified hardware is compatible with the All-Glass door
selected.
Type P Glass doors can accommodate most closers including automatic and power assisted
closers. This type can also most readily accommodate electric and magnetic locks.
Exit devices for all glass doors are limited to the mechanical Blumcraft H -100 and H-110 Panic
series or the electronic CHMI “Smart-Touch” series.

Continuous horizontal top and bottom rails

Corner fittings top and bottom on the pivot corners plus a lock fitting on active
side of the door. Usually on the bottom near or at the corner, but can be on the
jamb locking into the doorjamb or a strike housing mounted on a sidelight.
Patch fittings can be the European Style (2" x 6") or a rail patches 3 5/8" x 9", 12", or 14" inches
long. Patch fittings are extruded aluminum or cast aluminum with stainless steel inserts. Patch fittings
may be clad or have covers to match the specified finish.
MAINTENANCE. Closer maintenance is usually routine and is covered in the closer manufacturer’s
instructions.
A special caution must be observed if the specified hardware finish is Brass, Bronze or other
Copper alloy. Since all of these alloys contain copper, they will oxidize (tarnish) in time due to
moisture and other chemicals present in the air. A regular maintenance schedule of cleaning with an
off-the-shelf brass or metal cleaner will easily return the metal to its natural appearance. If left too
long a professional metal restoration company may be required to return the finish to its original
appearance. Protective lacquers can be specified, but these coatings are only temporary and are
susceptible to scratching in heavy traffic areas and may need to be refinished frequently. Oldcastle
BuildingEnvelope® does not offer a lacquered finish.
METAL FINISHES.
Aluminum Finishes. All Aluminum extrusion finishes listed by the Aluminum Association
Designation System for Aluminum Finishes are available for aluminum door rails and patch fitting
covers. The most popular, and therefore the most available finishes for aluminum rails, are 204 R1 (US
26) and 313 R1 (Dark Bronze Anodized).
