Some Things to Consider before Volunteering at BHHR:
Time Commitment:
Plan to spend a minimum of one hour each day feeding and cleaning. Weather will affect the
amount of time needed.
Emotional Commitment:
Due to the abuse or neglect a rescued animal has endured, he/she will need special care. Most
rescued horses will require extra patience and kind handling. In many circumstances volunteers
are not notified when horses leave the rescue (for their adoptive homes or other reasons) and
some horses may have chronic and/or temporary ailments that may appear disturbing to some
people.
In order to ensure quality care, the volunteer must agree to the following:
To show up for their scheduled shift or to give at least 24 hour notice otherwise.
To care for and handle the horses in a kind professional manner at all times
To notify BHHR staff in charge if any horse appears to be ill or injured (other than what the
horse is currently in treatment for).
To notify BHHR staff in charge of any safety concerns on BHHR premises.
To agree to refrain from publishing or disseminating any any objectively disparaging statements
about BHHR to any third parties in any form or manner whatsoever including, but not limited
to,correspondence, phone calls, signage, e-mails or internet postings
To understand that if it is determined that the volunteer contract agreements are not being
adhered to BHHR has the right to terminate the volunteer without notice and take legal action if
necessary.
