Introduction
 In 1998, the Government introduced its White Paper on Transport,
which emphasised the need to address the use of cars for the school
journey. School Travel Plans are seen as a key component in
addressing school journey issues.
 A School Travel Plan is a package of measures aimed to reduce the
number of ‘school runs’ made. A series of different measures
introduced by the school, through the Plan, all contribute to reducing
the congestion outside the school gates. Pupils, staff and parents are
educated about and encouraged to walk and cycle to and from school
instead, thus helping to increase pupils’ independence, safety and
health and fitness.
Our school travel plan
 This is the basic template for your School Travel Plan, designed to
save you from writing it from scratch.
 You may find you have already done a lot towards your Plan, and that
it is simply a question of pulling information together. If not, this
template provides you with a simple format to follow.
 Feel free to add any extra information you think is useful – comments,
pictures, statistics, anything which further illustrates your case.
Asset Management Plans
A copy of this travel plan, will be sent to the Asset Management team to
incorporate any changes made as part of the travel plan is reflected and
show in the AMP document.
A copy of the landlords consent form to make changes is also attached
and will be sent to the AMP team.

Why I am the school travel plan Champion
I am keen on health and fitness and I am interested in global warming,
and being the school travel plan champion, as well as the health and
sustainable schools coordinator I feel I am giving the right information to
our school children to enable them to be a well rounded and educated
individual who cares for the environment and community. I also believe
the school ravel plan can assist the children in being safer when travelling
to and from school

any sickness occurs we always have
sufficient cover as both patrollers are
always willing to step in to ensure the

 Awareness Raising
AIM – to raise awareness to all members of the school, parents
and the community.
It is very important to bring home to parents what your school is
doing to achieve its School Travel targets, after all it is the parents
who decide how their child travels. So along with promoting the
Plan inside school to get the message across to all pupils and
staff, it is as equally important to raise awareness to parents and
all members of the community. Mention how awareness is going
to be raised to different people. And how promotion of the Plan is
going to be done.
Solutions
E.g. Hold regular assemblies about the journey to
and from school, with good news stories and
awards, if appropriate.
Target Date
Inform parents about the project, explaining that you
would like all pupils to come to school, whenever
possible, by walking, cycling and public transport.
Newsletters, leaflets, information evenings, include
in prospectus etc.
Introduce Road Safety and Safer Journeys into the
curriculum, with suitable resources from PCC.
Posters, competitions, logos, leaflets etc.
Notice boards in staff rooms informing staff of
progress.
Walking Buses
