A concept of an unified, lost, regained and redesigned identity defines new specific features
of the Romanian contemporary art after more than 20 years of transition. The temporary
identities became permanent and consequently generated multi-layered identity confusion.
These artistic statements become specific to expressing identity in the Eastern present. The
artworks and the artists presented are examples for the rising of the emerging art markets
from the Eastern Europe.
Anca Danila – artist statement
”Nowadays it’s becoming more difficult to be present, the reflection of reality makes the
individual to contemplate on his own reality. My artworks explore the notion of “Selfidentity” in the social life and how it becomes an inescapable issue. I am analysing the
distortion of values which are determined by the emigration process of a person and by the
role it plays on his own identity.
Because social actors are reflexive and monitor the ongoing flow of activities and structural
conditions, they adapt their actions to their evolving understandings. As a result, social
scientific knowledge of society will actually change human activities.”
Bogdan Rata – artist statement
”I work with human fragments which I combine in order to create images with a strong
emotional impact: frustration, fright, shame. I reinterpret the human body precisely in order
to induce a state of confusion to the reader and to in a way force him to understand, from a
different perspective, the contemporary human being.”
Flavia Pitis – artist statement
”Reality is not only one, observable and comprehensible for everyone in the same time, it’s a
work in progress, and each decision we take is throwing us in a different scenario that is also
perceived as real. Being changed in real time, it develops differently for each of us and often
these very scenarios are melting together or just intersecting, while each cross is leading to a
new situation.”
Daniel Brici – curator statement
The unfinished approach of Daniel Brici paintings functions the same as memory, very
precise with some details and suffering from blanks for some others. Brici uses oil on canvas
and „un-finishes” his works by the use of crayon.
Cristian Todie – artist statement
”To tie the world of general relativity to the quantum universe, physics theories add new
dimensions to the four existing dimensions in order to open new horizons.
In search of new artistic matter, I adopted the opposite method, that of reducing the number
of dimensions.
The industrial process Folding Volume 2D proposed in February 2012 as well as the Volume
2D patent obtained 10 years ago exist as theoretical art that, in addition to their originality
and novelty essential to their patentability, are based on the idea that a geometric space
with memory, with parameters that differ from the metric nature of objects in the printing
world, is the ideal universe for experimentation. The image reproduced on a stack of sheets
appears projected trapped in the mass of paper.”

--The 16th International Art Fair proposes in 2014 a selection of international and
contemporary art, in an exclusive location. Art International Zurich, one of the most
important and well established art events in Switzerland, is a forum which opens to a large
public the actual art scene. It has developed in the last years to a meeting point between
artists, gallery owners and art-lovers, offering an essential space for contacts, sales and
cultural exchange.
