The Contemporary Art Gallery (CAG) is a non-profit public art gallery dedicated to the
research, exhibition, education and documentation of contemporary visual art as it is
practiced locally through to internationally. It aspires to generate significant audiences for
its innovative and diverse programmes through free access and a profile that is
international in scope. The CAG is the longest standing independent public art gallery
dedicated to presenting contemporary visual art in Vancouver. We deliver between ten
and twenty exciting exhibitions and off-site projects each year, provide an extensive range
of learning and public programs for adults, families and children, offer a series of residencies
for Canadian and international artists directly contributing to the local scene, and publish
insightful catalogues that create a lasting legacy of exhibited work. We do this while
offering all of our programs free of charge through an admission by donation policy. We
believe that access to, enjoyment of and engagement with contemporary art and the
surrounding debates should be available and open to all.
Description:
The Program Intern assists in administrative support for the progamming team of the
Contemporary Art Gallery in relation to gallery and offsite programmes; providing a
centralized cross staff research function for upcoming exhibitions and artistic programme.
The position is temporary part-time (16 hours/week) from July 2 to August 28, 2015. Some
evening and weekend work maybe required.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Curator, Learning and Public Programs, the Program Intern will contribute
to the coordination of exhibitions, publication and learning programmes. Key responsibilities
will include:
• assist programming staff with administration and coordination
• coordinate visiting artist arrangements
• assist with artwork shipping and storage, loan forms, artist contracts, condition
reports,
• insurance lists, checklists, labels and documentation.
• update staff with schedules and technical requirements related to installation and
residencies.
• research upcoming programming and provide information for all teams.
• produce blog entries for CAG blogs, interviewing artists and documenting public
events.
• work with artists’ representatives to obtain images and related information for
marketing, publicity, learning and public programs.
•
In consultation with the Curator for Learning and Public Programs produce resource
packages and provide other support.
Qualifications:
This position is for a Graduate Student.
Skills and Abilities
• strong computer skills in a PC environment including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
• outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple
projects
• understanding of the arts and cultural sector with knowledge of contemporary art
• within a team environment work independently to support the work of others
• careful attention to detail and the ability to research, integrate and present data
• scheduling and coordinating activities and resources
• enter and integrate data and present information in documents and spreadsheets
• coordinate and deliver administrative support
• creative Suite skills are desirable
