MODIFICATION OF THE NETHASP.INI FILE
If you are experiencing difficulties with a client machine connecting to the Dongle License
Manager, you may need to manually add (and modify) the NetHasp.ini file to your client machine.
The NetHasp.ini file directs your WHI software to look to a specific computer on your network for
the Dongle License Manager, instead of the normal “broadcast request”. By using the
NetHasp.ini file to manually locate the Dongle License Manager, you can resolve most license
difficulties.
Please ensure that you copy the NetHasp.ini file into the program folder (i.e. where your WHI
program is installed) on the client computer.
Depending on your network protocol (TCP/IP, NetBIOS, IPX), there are different methods for
modifying the file.
Modification for a TCP/IP network
When you open your NetHasp.ini file (for example, using Notepad), it will appear similar to the
following screen capture.
The NH_Server_ADDR value should reflect the full computer name (including domain), or the IP
address (if you have static IP Addresses assigned), of the computer running the License Manager
software (i.e. the computer with the network dongle attached).
In the case of the example above, if the entry required modification, the line would read as
follows:
NH_Server_ADDR = [full computer name or IP address]
Please ensure that you leave a space before and after the = sign, and that you do not modify any
other line in the file.
Modification for a NetBIOS network
When you open your NetHasp.ini file (for example, using Notepad), it will appear similar to the
following screen capture.
The NH_NBNAME value should reflect the NetBIOS computer name (up to 8 characters, and
must be a unique computer name on your network) of the computer running the License Manager
software (i.e. the computer with the network dongle attached).
In the case of the example above, if the entry required modification, the line would read as
follows:
NH_NBNAME = [NetBIOS computer name]
Please ensure that you leave a space before and after the = sign, and that you do not modify any
other line in the file.
If your network dongle is connected to a very slow, or very busy, workstation, you may need to
increase the timeout values of NH_SESSION and NH_SEND_RCV from their defaults of 2 and 1.
WHI suggests doubling the numbers and retesting, until adequate performance is obtained.
Modification for an IPX network
When you open your NetHasp.ini file (for example, using Notepad), it will appear similar to the
following screen capture
The NH_DATFILE_PATH value should reflect the full computer name (including domain), or the
IP address (if you have static IP Addresses assigned), of the computer running the License
Manager software, where the NEWHADDR.DAT file is located (i.e. the computer with the network
dongle attached).
The NH_SEARCH_METHOD default value of “Internet” allows the software to search using port
495. Please ensure that if you are using a WAN, that port 495 has adequate security permissions
to allow communication.
