WHEREAS, the University of Maryland Women’s Club Basketball team’s mission is to provide an opportunity for women to participate in an intercollegiate competitive environment, beyond intramural competition, and to improve on personal skills; and, 2. WHEREAS, the East Coast Women’s Club Basketball League Championships, which is held here at the University of Maryland, College Park and is run and organized by the University of Maryland Women’s Club Basketball; and, 3. WHEREAS, the University of Maryland Women’s Club Basketball team is an active student group comprised of and governed by students who offer an opportunity for women to come together to learn and teach each other skills and to provide tournaments where they could compete against other universities; and, 4. WHEREAS, the most significant tournament is the East Coast Women’s Club Basketball League Championships, which is a tournament that involves twentyfive universities coming to this university to compete for the champion title of our league in their respected division; and, 5. WHEREAS, this event will bring recognition to our university and will showcase our abilities as a team to accomplish the task of hosting the league championships; and, 6. WHEREAS, being that we have held the tournament for the past five of our eight years as a club, it is quickly becoming a tradition at the university; and, 7. WHEREAS, we have a standing relationship with the SGA, for we have received funding for the past three years; and, 8. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the SGA co-sponsor the East Coast Women’s Club Basketball League Championships by funding the program in the amount of $3,848 to be taken from Legislative Reserves; and, 9.
