Research Interests:
Dr. Hunter has a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of South
Carolina with an emphasis in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience. Her
professional interests are in early brain development and how it is related to later
developmental and psychiatric outcomes. She has been employed in this lab since
2001 when I began as a post-doctoral fellow.

Dr. Kusumi received his M.D. from the University of Colorado School of Medicine
and also graduated with his B.A. in Biology from Pomona College in Claremont,
California. His professional interests are in parental mental health and its impact on
the schizophrenic child. He also researches the functional assessments on children
with child onset schizophrenia. He has worked with Dr. Ross since 2004.

Dr. D’Anna received her Ph.D. in Zoology and Behavioral Neuroendocrinology from
the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She also earned her B.S. in Zoology and
Animal Behavior/Neuroscience with a specialization in Chicano/Latino Studies from
Michigan State University. Dr. D’Anna is interested in the biological markers of
maternal depression and how stress/anxiety affects these markers and maternal
depression in different communities. She has been a postdoctoral research fellow in
the lab since September of 2008.

Jordan is an M.D. candidate with expected graduation in the year 2010 from the
University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. She has earned her B.A. in
biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder and completed the
Psychiatry Scholars Plus Program in the summer of 2007. Her professional interested
include investigating the effects of prenatal depression on infant auditory sensory
gating.

Tierney is an MD Candidate with expected graduation in the year 2010 from the
University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and has completed the
Psychiatry Scholars Program. She has earned her BS Molecular and Cellular Biology
from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Her professional interests include
investigating mastery motivation in infants of mothers with and without depressive
symptoms. She also researches the relationship between maternal depression and
maternal perceptions of mastery motivation.

Kate earned her Masters of Social Work from Boston College in 2001 and completed
her M.S.W. Internship at The Massachusetts General Hospital Division of Pediatrics
in 2002. She completed her post-M.S.W. Fellowship in Outpatient Psychiatry, The
Children’s Hospital Boston and worked as a Clinical Social Worker from 2002 to
2005 at The Children’s Hospital Heart Institute and The Children’s Hospital Denver.
Her professional interests include motivational interviewing and investigating
research diagnoses of psychosis in children and adults. Kate conducts structured
clinical interviews with children and adults and works with referred clients who may
have child onset schizophrenia. She has worked in this lab since 2005.

Kim has earned her M.A. in Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University
in New Haven, Connecticut. She has completed the DC-03R diagnostic training and
Trauma Focused Therapy training for preschoolers. She earned her B.A. in
Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004 and has also worked
as a Lead Infant/Toddler teacher at the Goddard School in Orange, Connecticut. Her
professional interests lie in the field of infant mental health and in diagnosing and
treating early childhood disorders. She conducts developmental assessments,
psychological testing, EEG recordings on infants and toddlers and neuropsychiatric
testing on children with possible child onset schizophrenia. She also conducts
cognitive assessments including the WPPSI-III on preschool age children. She has
been employed in this lab since 2007.

Julie earned her Associates in Nursing in 2006 from the Denver School of Nursing.
She also has earned her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Montana. Her
interests lie in investigating the effects of choline supplementation during pregnancy
on fetal brain development. Julie continues to counsel pregnant women who smoke
and encourage cessation, and she recruits and manages study subjects through
Denver Health Medical Center, Department of OB/GYN. She has worked in this lab
since 2005.

Jill earned her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 2003 from Regis University and her B.A. in
Psychology and Pre-Nursing from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2001.
She worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Denver Health for six years and has
lived in Madrid, Spain for a year. Jill’s professional interests include women’s health
and she helps recruit for and manage study subjects for the choline study. She has
worked in this lab since December of 2009.

Shauna is working on her Master’s in Public Health through the University of
Colorado Denver. Shauna earned her B.A. in Psychology from Boston University in
2004 with a minor in Spanish. Shauna spent two and a half years in Peru with the
Peace Corps which has prepared her for a career working with families from all
different backgrounds. Shauna is fluent in Spanish and is responsible for subject
recruitment, scheduling, and conducting EEG testing, developmental and cognitive
assessments on infants, toddlers and preschoolers. She is also responsible for
recruiting and scheduling Spanish speaking only families. She has worked in this lab
since 2008.
