3rd September 2006 - Circular No. 3/2006 For Internal Circulation among members Dear Sisters & Brothers, ARREARS ON MEAL ALLOWANCE AND MILEAGE CLAIM Due to the changes in the Collective Agreement arrears on the above was not paid and this was raised to the management. The following, were the dates paid for the respective arrears by HR. Meal allowance was paid on 31/7/06, where else mileage claims were paid on 22/09/06. If members are still not paid till to date, please refer the matter to HR. CAR INSURANCE REBATE. As you are all aware that car insurance policy taken via Commerce Life, staff are entitled for rebate. This rebate was supposed to be refunded by the bank to staff. This was not done so since the incentive was introduced and as such the Union had raised this matter with HR, and they had rightfully credited back to the respective staff account on 26/09/06. Again we would like to remind members to refer this matter to HR, if you have not been reimbursed. GREAT EASTERN INSURANCE SCHEME We have successfully launched this scheme to almost 576 applicants. The first deduction was done on 26/09/06. Those of you who had taken up this great offer, you will be receiving your certificate together with an option to upgrade the policy coverage up to RM 250,000 (RM250 monthly). Do not miss this opportunity to enhance your policy as well as for your family. Those of you who had missed the boat, we will be re-launching it soon. INCREASE IN STAFF HOUSING LOAN INTEREST RATE TO 4%. Management had solely decided to increase staff housing loan interest, from 3% to 4% for new application and effective 1/1/2007 for existing housing loan holders. We have objected to this as this increase will be a burden on the staff cost and we will continue to pursue this matter until we achieve our goal. We have yet to see any circular pertaining to this change. PMS SHIFTING OF SCORE The management had also informed us without mutual consent, increased the rating standards of the PMS score, not only that, they will be doing it on the second half of the this year, with the total score being matched with the new scoring system. We have protested to this changes as raising the bar means reducing to staff ability to reach their target. It looks like the management is introducing High Performance Culture in a shrewd way. We wish to publish the new score sheet below: Rating E D C B A 1.001.602.603.604.60current 1.59 2.59 3.59 4.59 5.00 1.002.003.004.004.70new 1.99 2.99 3.99 4.69 5.00 Notice the drastic change in the scoring, especially average rating standards. INTERNAL TRAINING FOR EXCO & AREA COMMITTEE MEMBERS. In order to equip officials of the Union with current affairs both locally and globally the Union recently organized “Decent work & Globalization effect on workers” training, in Penang. It was a fruitful training, which was conducted by one of the leading trainers from MTUC, Mr. Sivananthan. We also urge members to have a basic understanding on the above topic. We are already seeing changes in the banking industry by way of mergers, reduction in benefits and outsourcing. We will see a full impact of globalization when the financial institution gears up for liberalization in 2007. The Bank has set up an OSHA committee in compliance with OSHA act. Our EXCO, has gone through numerous training on OSHA conducted mainly by MTUC. OSH is something all members must observe in order for us to have a conducive working environment which will also relate to work performance. The union is quite serious in ensuring OSH is complied with not only by the management but also all members of the union. Take this culture in your day-to-day working life and it would lead to a better working environment. WORKSHOP ON GLOBALIZATION AND IMPACT ON BANK STAFF This workshop was organized by Federation of Bank and Financial Institutions Employee (FEDFIE), whom we are affiliated to. It was held on 12th to 13th June 2006. We had the re known Charles Santiago with us during the workshop. The workshop dealt with all kind of issues, which might affect the banking industry as a whole. Areas of concern were: • Threat to unions • Job security • Loss of benefits - i.e. medical • Social stress on workers • Outsourcing and mergers • Flexi wage / flexi hours • Working from home Workshop also came up with recommendations, which were forwarded to FEDFIE for consideration. We also discussed on Decent Wage, which was adopted by ILO (International Labour Organization). Some of the decent work compliance are: EXERCISE YOUR RIGHTS MEAL ALLOWANCE. Many of you take for granted that if you are to work extra hours due to overload of work, you do not claim your meal allowance. The reason given is that you are doing it on your own accord. Mind you that you are actually depriving others who are rightfully trying to claim. Superiors will quote you as an example for those who are not claiming, in discouraging other to claim. It is meaningless to include meal allowance in our CA, when members are not exercising this clause. The Union recently received a letter from an unknown source, indicating certain of our members coming to work on holidays but not putting up any meal allowance claim. We request members to put a stop to this practice and claim your meal allowance as stipulated in the CA. WEBSITE - NEXT FORWARD PROJECT We are in the process of designing a website of our own. We believe that by having our own website we will be able to disseminate information more quickly and freely. Members will be able to know more on union activities plus you will be able to provide feedbacks more openly without any reservations. We have tentatively set Jan 2007 as our launching date. Tentatively we have set http:/www.unioncimb.org.my as our domain. To all our Hindu & Muslim members, the EXCO of BCBESU wish you all Happy Deepavali & Selamat Hari Raya • Comply with global standards (ETI – Ethical, Training, Initiative). • No discrimination • Fair wage • Dignity i.e. protection of rights • Share fruits of progress with all UNITED WE STAND UNION EXECUTIVE CIMB BANK Address : 20th Floor, Menara CIMB, 6, Jalan Tun Perak, 50050 Kuala Lumpur Tel : 03-2693 1722 Ext. 6373
