Conference Program
SIAL 7 will be the first SIAL meeting to take place in North America. It will focus on
integrative approaches to understanding evolution of Ancient Lakes systems with
sessions concerning microbial communities in ancient lakes, ecological speciation,
conservation and invasive species, and novel perspectives on taxonomy. Keynote
speakers will include Tom Wilke, Pete McIntyre discussing topics ranging from deep
drilling perspectives in ancient lakes to environmental perspectives on species
extinctions. New to this SIAL meeting, we will be having Hot Topic Discussions which
will be a half hour informal meeting including a brief presentation on novel techniques
followed by a discussion of how to integrate these practices into current research.
These will include discussions on genomics, paleo-geo analytical approaches, food
webs, and ancient DNA.
Keynote Speakers:
Tom Wilke – Deep drilling perspectives
Pete McIntyre – Environmental perspectives of species extinctions
Jeff McKinnon – Sexual selection and speciation
Jim Russell / Hendrik Vogel – Coring in Lake Towuti
