REPORT
Bombay Chamber under the aegis of Sustainability Committee launched first ever training
course on IRCA Certified "Energy Management System Auditor Conversion Training" based
on ISO 50001:2011 from 24th to 26th Feb '14 in collaboration with Bureau Veritas
Certification (India) Pvt. Ltd.
Business Challenge
Energy efficiency is often referred to as the fifth source of energy after thermal, hydro,
nuclear and renewable. In order to optimize energy use, organizations have to establish
systems and processes that reduce inefficiency, improve performance and also reduce GHG
emissions. With a power deficit of around 12 %, it is imperative for organizations in India,
whether large or small to have energy management systems and processes in place to reduce
the organization’s energy consumption and cost. With concerns about enhanced Greenhouse
Gas emissions, along with a push towards a low carbon economy and a heightened awareness
of the risks posed by volatile fuel prices, the government has already put in place Energy
Efficiency targets for industry. Business, therefore must clearly identify areas of high energy
consumption and establish, implement and maintain energy management systems to achieve
energy and GHG emission reduction targets. Stakeholders expect organizations to publicly
reveal their performance on Energy Efficiency and reduction in Greenhouse gas emissions.

The Energy Management System will help in increasing the energy efficiency by
taking systematic management approach and optimizing & monitoring the
energy consumption in organizations.
It is also one of the key performance indicators of "Sustainability Reporting'" as
per GRI guidelines for Industries.
ISO 50001:2011 is the management system standard; implementation of which
provides the framework for establishing energy consumption monitoring system
and in turn, over a period of time ensuring operational cost reduction.
The standard also requires enhancing the competency of internal employees
(involved in significant energy use). The structured training which is also IRCA
certified meets the purpose of competency building of the employees.
The implementation of the standard also influences and enhances the energy
saving culture/ energy behaviour of the organization.
Certification
At the end of the training delegates appeared for 100 minutes examination. Delegates who
successfully complete both the examination and the continual assessment were awarded a
certificate of Successful Completion. Others were issued Certificate of Attendance. This is an
"IRCA accredited course" and hence has worldwide recognition.
The overall feed back of the training was very positive and encouraging.
Maheshwari, Joint Director offered vote of thanks to speaker and delegates.
