MEETING MINUTES 1. In the absence of an officer there was growing concern that the opportunities presented by the, next year, 40 year celebratory occasion might be delayed or reduced in scope. There was an associated desire to have inputs from the Board to clarify ideas and priorities for next year. At the next meeting of the sub committee, after the Board AGM, it would be a priority to develop timely plans for events and publicity work to run through 2006 supporting the 40 year AONB designation anniversary. It was felt that badges for board members, staff and wardens would be an appropriate way to promote the Board and its activities, guide prices for metal badges had been obtained. There would also need to be a discussion about suitable words, or a slogan, to label designated features or events celebrating the anniversary, such as trees or seats, or competitions. 1 It was suggested that a schools competition to devise an appropriate slogan might be a way to develop links and interest. Prizes or rewards could be won from local businesses. The media would be interested in the ‘good news’ story, which would generate further awareness. It was noted that wardens had begun planning to install seats and trees which would be a part of the 40th year programme. Two businesses had agreed that they might prepare special products which could carry the 40th year celebratory branding. The paper provided by Annemarie ‘Communications Strategy 2005 to 2008’ and the 2002 study, interpretation strategy for the Cotswolds AONB, commissioned by the Partnership provided vital guidance on the way forward. 2. The Cotswolds/Forest of Dean DMO proposal was discussed and it was again agreed that the Board would need an input to this activity to ensure that the issues for the Cotswolds are correctly presented. 3. The sub committee were brought up to date on the Business Plan prioritisation work which they had contributed towards at the last meeting. 4. Concern was expressed that the Caring for the Cotswolds project is permitted to utilise the resources in hand for publicity and awareness developments. Some innovative thinking was suggested for this aspect of the work. 5. The sub committee viewed one of fifteen village heritage presentations developed in the past by wardens. It was explained that these presentations were devised to encourage involvement of people who do not wish to walk the open country. A main objective was to improve knowledge and interest in our Cotswold heritage and promote the AONB. While the programme of shows was running many people had been brought out into Cotswold villages and towns to appreciate and value our local history, buildings and natural beauty. The sub committee also viewed material prepared for picture presentations at shows and events including illustrations of the reasons for designation, history and countryside work aspects. This latter material was provided by Cotswold Voluntary Warden, David Gardyne. 6. The date of the next meeting was provisionally set for Friday 25th November at 10am. 2
