Counselling & Support Services Team, Mental Heath & Wellbeing Branch, Child Youth & Family Directorate Team Leader/s and Branch Manager December 2013 POSITION SUMMARY BRIEF Overall description of the role: Psychologist providing psychological services to children and adolescents up to 16 years of age and their parents/carers in keeping with the philosophy of community health. Service provision includes: Evidenced based psychological intervention Group work Psychosocial intake assessments Portfolio work Student placements Health promotion DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES o o o o o o o o o Perform duties within the scope of practice of the role and according to the clinical privileges confirmed through the verification of credentials (qualifications, registration and professional competencies). Provide psychological services to children and adolescents (aged 0 to 16 years) and their parents/carers covering areas including learning and developmental issues, social-emotional and behavioural difficulties. This may include assessment using psychological tools as necessary, diagnosis, treatment/intervention and report writing as appropriate. Facilitate psycho-educational and /or support groups for parents and/or children and more broadly within the Counselling & Support Services Team. Participate in the Counselling Intake system, principally in conducting psychosocial assessments of clients referred to the Counselling & Support Services more broadly (including conducting risk assessments), and help manage the intake of Child & Adolescent Psychology referrals and associated waiting lists; provide intake services from various sites as required (Broadmeadows, Meadow Heights and Craigieburn). Participate in internal supervision. Contribute to Dianella’s student placement program by supervising university Master of Psychology students on field placements as appropriate. To monitor and maintain key performance indicators monthly. To provide secondary consultation to a range of professionals both internally and externally. Ensure relevant information, statistics and documentation of practice are collected and recorded within specified timeframes eg TRAK client electronic health records progress notes and departmental statistical reporting, ACCESS Database. Position Description and Specification o o o o o o o o o o o o To attend intake meetings and present intake case assessments as required. To follow up external referrals to the Counselling and Support Services as required as part of counselling intake system. To attend Counselling and Support Services Team meetings and contribute to service development. Participate in the development and implementation of the Counselling and Support Services Team operational plan. Identify and develop a sound working knowledge and relationship with other service providers within the Hume Municipality and surrounding areas. Develop familiarity with and be attentive to the completion of Dianella administrative documentation. Contribute to all levels of Dianella Community Health development of culturally relevant, responsive and flexible services to vulnerable individuals and their families. To plan, implement and evaluate an individual work plan. To attend relevant meetings as required. Participate in or provide Health Promotion activities as appropriate. To contribute to other internal and external departmental reporting requirements as appropriate. The Psychologist is bound by the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics which has been adopted by the Psychology Board of Australia, in conjunction with the Psychology Board of Australia’s various guidelines and policies covering areas of competence (Psychologists’ services should be restricted to their areas of competence), privacy and confidentiality, and propriety. Portfolio Work: o This position holds with it one of two portfolios to be determined on commencement based on suitability of candidate. A portion of this position’s weekly EFT is allocated to the portfolio commitment. The portfolios are subject to change depending on the needs of the community and organisation. Portfolio 1: Pathway to Good Health To work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) alongside the paediatrician and speech pathologist in the provision of a comprehensive assessment of children in out of home care. To provide psychological assessment, reporting and secondary consultation as required in the delivery of the MDT assessments. To contribute to program monitoring and development requirements as appropriate. Portfolio 2: Early Childhood Development To work collaboratively with the Early Intervention Service in the provision of secondary consultation and other collaborations in the provision of integrated service delivery. This may also include joint assessments, co-facilitation of parenting groups, psycho-education sessions as appropriate. Professional Development: o Participate in individual and group supervision. o To plan, implement and evaluate a professional development work plan. o Contribute towards the fieldwork of psychology education by maintaining links with professional bodies and educational institutions, and through the support of Master of Psychology student placements. o Ensure a high quality social work service by updating own professional skills and knowledge through attendance at appropriate courses/workshops/seminars. Represent Dianella Community Health in a positive and professional manner to other organisations, funding bodies and the public. Provide a best practice model of service delivery. Liaise with relevant professionals in the provision, promotion and community development of high quality psychological services for children and adolescents, for example, liaison with schools and preschools as appropriate and joint programmes with other service providers. Promote and develop rapport with relevant staff in associated services and counterparts at Dianella and with other agencies. Position Description and Specification MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS o o o It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain registration as a Psychologist and fulfil the requirements of the Psychology Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), including abiding by the Code of Ethics and meeting all Continuing Professional Development requirements. Participate in continuing professional education and development in order to maintain the highest possible service standards. The ability to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of assessment tools, including behavioural/social emotional, developmental, cognitive and educational assessments. Demonstrated experience in the facilitation of psycho-education and counselling support groups. Well developed communication skills. Ability to provide comprehensive psychological reports. The ability to develop and implement psychological intervention programmes from a developmental and cognitive–behavioural perspective. Capacity to supervise Master of Psychology students on field placement. The ability to work as an independent Psychologist within a multi disciplinary setting, including the coordination and management of client case-load and administration.
