Overall purpose of the job

This post is intended for those who wish to embark on an academic career conducting quality research and lecturing on postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the broad area of International Business Economics. We would particularly welcome applications from those with an interest in international applications of Business

Economics, Institutional Economics, Financial Economics, Microfinance or a related area. You will be expected to contribute to existing teaching and help in the development of new courses in International Business and Economics. Research and enterprise is encouraged, including participation in projects jointly launched by other members of the School/Department.

Main Activities and Duties

Teaching and Professional Practice

To undertake teaching in international business economics, and/or related specialisms as determined by the Head of Department, to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, MPhil, PhD and DBA theses as required, to keep abreast of developments within this discipline and seek continuous improvement of their professional practice.

Scholarship and Consultancy

To maintain high professional standing in their discipline and to develop further their own scholarly profile, including a programme of high quality research, disseminated primarily in refereed academic journals.

School and University Systems

To efficiently implement approved policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures in relation to their academic duties, including the maintenance of student records, course co-ordination, personal tutoring and assessment.

Student Care

To maintain an overview of the welfare, progression, examination and assessment of allocated students.

Health and Safety

To discharge all relevant responsibilities for health and safety.

General Duties

1.

To maintain professional standards in relationships, including non-discriminatory practices.

To deal promptly and sensitively with members of the public, staff, and students.

3.

To be reviewed under the Staff Appraisal and Development Review Scheme.

4.

To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Head of

Department.

Scope

The post is particularly suitable for a candidate willing to establish themselves in an academic career in the field of International Business Economics. The position offers opportunities for research and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and enables an ambitious candidate to play an important role in the shaping of the future development of International Business and Economics in the University of Greenwich

Business School. The School provides conditions conducive for active research and the successful candidate may apply for teaching relaxation for research.

The Department runs successful postgraduate programmes in International Business and in Business and Financial Economics and is host to vibrant research groups in

Business Networks, Public Services, Economic Governance, Microfinance and

Transition Economies. The successful candidate would be expected to develop a research agenda in one of these research or programme areas, although this would not preclude the establishment of their own line of research.

Department as part of the post-holder’s annual Appraisal and Professional

Development Review.

It is a requirement of the post that the appointee is willing to undertake appropriate management and other personal and professional development that will assist them in the role.

If they do not already hold a teaching qualification, the person appointed will be required to register for a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education in the first year.

The post is on the AC2 salary scale (spine points 30 – 35) £29972 - £34745 per annum plus £3288 per annum London weighting allowance.
