PSI Logistics Presents Innovative Approach to Networked Logistics
Berlin, 16 February 2011 – PSI Logistics GmbH are launching its trade fair appearance at CeMAT 2011 with the slogan "Smart Grid for Logistics". The background
for this is a new approach to the intelligent networking of existing logistics structures.
At stand D18 in Hall 27 at CeMAT 2011, PSI Logistics will present an innovative scenario for meeting the demands of intelligent networked logistics systems under the label
"Smart Logistics Grid". This is based on tried and tested technologies and uses an integrated approach based on the principle that growth and sustainability do not necessarily
mean "More" but instead often just mean "Better".
The trendsetting Smart Grid – an intelligent supply network - has its roots in the energy
sector. The basic objective is to secure the supply on the basis of efficient and reliable
system operations and the improved interaction between consumers and producers. The
utilisation of these intelligent supply networks is the result of an improved communication network and control of supply networks, and the IT basis for this is supplied by the
PSI Group – one of the most innovative developers and leading providers in the market.
This approach considers the most favourable consumer situations and includes all actors
in the complete system. A Smart Grid of this type has a number of "adjustable elements"
thus providing many options for optimisation.
The configurations in logistics, whether B2B or B2C, are comparable and enable the use
of a Smart Logistics Grid. The PSI projects in the area of electricity supply show that
network management of this type is technologically feasible and economically successful.
Utilise potential with the intelligent networking of existing structures. Save and optimise
valuable resources through intelligent approaches. Then commission orders when capacities and preparation areas are actually available. Then dispatch the truck when the route
has minimum traffic and when unload slots are free to reduce waiting times, traffic jams,
energy consumption, and costs. Link warehouses across the company to a virtual central
warehouse and shift the reserve capacities from the warehouse and inventories to the
complete network. Consider logistics and transport resources in production planning. The
adjustable elements for an efficient Smart Logistics Grid are varied.
With a Smart Logistics Grid you will be able to coordinate resources for a complete network and, for example, integrate the logistics capacity of sales points in the network utilisation. Result: Optimum logistics availability – without the normally required creation of
reserve capacities.
This way of thinking also affects the long-term development of intralogistics. The first
steps for intelligent networked logistics of this type can already be implemented with
existing IT systems. Additional developments will open up additional benefits and fields
of business and enable the intralogistics location of Germany to gain a competitive position in the future as well.
The specified examples show that the Smart Logistics Grid can solve a number of the
problems in logistics networks. PSI Logistics has generated an innovative, trendsetting
approach to open up countless benefits and new fields of business for intralogistics
through intelligent networking. The premium software from PSI Logistic forms a solid
basis for this. In addition, the new way of thinking will also be considered in the further
development of the system environment for PSI Logistics.
PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions, on the basis of its own software
products, for energy management (electricity, gas, oil, heating, water), cross-company
production management (metals, automotive, machinery and plant engineering, mining,
logistics), and infrastructure management for transport and security. PSI was founded in
1969 and has 1,400 employees. www.psi.de
