Birds Transport & Logistics seek Operations Director The pedigree of Birds Transport and Logistics can be traced back over 110 years to the business known as J.W. Bird Haulage. Today, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ballyvesey Holdings Group a specialist transport and logistics provider focused on logistical excellence. Ballyvesey Holdings Limited employs approximately 2500 people in transport related services across Europe. The company focuses on high level brand identification hosting franchise relationships with Mercedes Benz, Scania, DAF, Montracon, Case, Terrex and Birds Transport and Logistics amongst many others. BTL operates from its head office in Oldbury with an operational network comprised of four transport offices, warehousing and commercial facilities along with a network of partners and the administrative functions one would expect of a company of this size. Due to significant growth in the business portfolio Birds Transport and Logistics wishes to appoint an Operations Director to assume responsibility for the efficient and effective coordination of the businesses multi-level logistical platforms. The position of Operations Director will be based in Oldbury where the successful applicant will be expected to maintain and expand upon the existing ethos that, if it can be done, it will be done, time after time. Job Purpose Management, leadership and development of the internal supply chain ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and on time delivery/collection at optimum cost levels. Achieve objectives in terms of service level, cost, asset utilisation and productivity through effective management of employees and resources. Be an integral member of the senior management team, shape the Company’s activities and underpin its success through hands on leadership from the front. Outline Duties Manage and develop operational transport planning flows optimising on internal efficiencies and vehicle utilisation Manage operational procedures and develop a proactive operational structure, developing and improving upon operational communication flows internally and externally Develop internal and external operational relationships including operational reviews, site partner meetings, commercial integration and customer service reviews including direct interface with customers Measure operational cost performance Interrogate KPI data to measure performance Review operational compliance and manage control processes including O Licences, vehicle maintenance programmes and associated responsibilities Experience Management level with a background in operations, logistics, and or supply chain management. Ability to co-ordinate regional and multi-site operational environments, demonstrating strong transport planning experience with sold communication and IT skills. It is essential that applicants have experience of GB and European logistics and an added advantage if they can demonstrate knowledge of Irish Sea operations.
