Comparison Magazine for the 1920’s and 1930’s in Canada
The 1920’s and 1930’s saw many changes in Canadian art, culture, lifestyle, politics, economy and much more.
Magazines were a prominent display of these changes. In a group of 4, research and create a professional
looking magazine that compares the 1920’s and 1930’s. Each group member is responsible for writing one
comparison article; articles should be 1 page in length, typed, and in column format. Each group member
chooses 1article/report from the following:
I. Lifestyles article – introduction paragraph is an overview of fashion, sports, movies, music, literature,
and art in the 1920’s and 1930’s; rest of article should focus on one or two aspects from the
introduction.
II. Political article – write a report comparing the politics of the 1920’s and 1930’s (new political parties,
women’s suffrage, prohibition)
III. Economic article – write an article discussing the high and low points of the economy during the
1920’s and 1930’s. Make sure to touch on various regions and social classes.
IV. Workers and the Government – write a report comparing the Bloody Saturday (Winnipeg General
Strike) and the Regina Riot (The On-To-Ottawa Trek) in terms of people involved, government
reaction and final outcomes.
Also Include:
V. Visuals and Cover Page–A) include visuals (with captions/explanations) for each article. B) create a
cover page including an illustration and title reflecting the 1920’s/1930’s and an overview of what is
in the magazine.
