Mission & Goals:
The Biomarker Mass Spectrometry Core Facility is a shared-use laboratory located in the Department of
Environmental Sciences and Engineering within the School of Public Health. It is one of six sub-core facilities within the Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility (CEHS) Systems Biology Facility Core (SBFC). The center provides expertise for qualitative and quantitative analysis of both small molecules and larger biomolecules. Areas of focus have included DNA and protein adducts as markers of chemical exposure, oxidative stress, and endogenous
DNA damage, as well as assay development for targeted biomarker analysis. The services and analyses performed within the facility enable UNC investigators to study the molecular mechanisms of environmentally based diseases as well as the relationships between genetic and environmental factors.
Types of Services & Support Available:
Services include: Qualitative and quantitative analysis of biomarkers including DNA and protein adducts, DNA and protein crosslinks, and metabolites; Assay and method development utilizing various LC/MS/MS strategies; Trace elemental analysis by ICP-MS
