Classroom Procedures Spanish 1B -- Srta. Hajek A. Materials Students will be required to bring to each class session the following materials: 1. A notebook that holds 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper. 2. A blue or black ball point pen. 3. Text Avancemos and other materials as outlined by Srta. Hajek. B. Class Procedures Students will: 1. Sit in assigned seats and have classroom partners. 2. Have approximately 30 minutes of daily homework. 3. Have no homework over vacations. 4. NOT CHEW GUM! Consequences -- wear the gum on your nose! 5. Do homework in a notebook or on 8 1/2 by 11 inch wide lined paper. 6. Have all written work (including homework) checked by Srta. Hajek. 7. File all written assignments and quizzes in a folder for the duration of the grading period. 8. Keep a weekly oral participation sheet. Spanish, not English, is the language of the classroom. 9. Complete a minimum of 35 points on the CPR projects (Cultural Participation and Resesarch) by the end of each term. C. Makeup 1. All makeup quizzes and exams will be given before or after school in room 185 . Arrangements must be made with Srta. Hajek for makeup time. 2. Srta. Hajek is available before and after school for any student who would like additional help in course work. Students should set up times for these sessions with the teacher. 3. All makeup for the week needs to be completed by 7:45 am on Wednesday of the week following the absence or the grade becomes a “0”. D. Grades 1. Routine homework and some quizzes: √+ = 3 outstanding (A) √ = 2 satisfactory (B-C) √ - = 1 unsatisfactory (D) 0 = 0 no credit 2. Quizzes, exams, and some graded homework are based on a point system. 3. Unexcused late assignments will automatically be downgraded one full grade: A --> B, √+ --> √ -. 4. After an absence, homework not turned in one week after the due date will become a “0”. 5. Assignments that are graded in class cannot be turned in late and will receive a grade of “0”. (Absences excluded) 6. In order to continue on to Spanish 2, students must accomplish all benchmarks for the term and set goals for the next level. 7. Active participation in class is essential to your success. The use of English in the classroom can negatively affect your grade. 8. The term grade (C1) will be determined by computing the following: Participation = 20%, homework = 20%, lab/group work/CPR activities =10%, exams and compositions = 50%. The C1 grade is 80% of the final term grade and the final exam is 20% of the final term grade. E.Expectations Throughout the class, the student will: acquire a working Spanish vocabulary of 800 words. understand spoken Spanish as it is spoken by a native speaker in situations similar to the student’s own experiences. speak Spanish in a manner understandable to native speakers within the range of vocabulary and structures familiar to the student. acquire a basic knowledge of Spanish grammar. be able to read passages with comprehension. acquire an understanding of the Hispanic culture.
