No. 92 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Dr. James Franklin Scudday retired on May 13, 1995, from his position as professor of biology at Sul Ross State University after completing more than four decades of distinguished service in the field of education; and WHEREAS, A specialist in vertebrate biology, Dr. Scudday is himself an alumnus of Sul Ross State University as a proud graduate of the class of 1952, and he furthered his education with a master's degree from the University of Idaho at Moscow and a doctorate from Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, This outstanding educator began his career as a teacher at Fort Stockton High School in 1952; after serving for two years with the United States Army, he returned to the classroom in 1956, and for the next six years was a positive role model to countless students as a biology teacher at Andrews High School; and WHEREAS, Dr. Scudday embarked on his lengthy and rewarding tenure with Sul Ross State University in 1962 as a biology instructor; he earned the respect and admiration of both his students and his colleagues for his professionalism, expertise, and commitment and went on to become a professor; and WHEREAS, Through his work as a certified wildlife biologist, he has completed pioneering field work in the Southwestern United States and in Northern Mexico, conducting important research on the status of rare and endangered species of vertebrates and on the ecology of white-winged doves in Southwest Texas; he has also performed valuable ecological studies in Mexico's Chihuahuan Desert; and WHEREAS, Dr. Scudday has shared his valuable insight and expertise as a member of several professional organizations, including the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles, the Herpetologists League, the Texas Academy of Science, and the national and state chapters of both the Society of Mammologists and the Wildlife Society; and WHEREAS, James Franklin Scudday has set an inspiring example of leadership and professional excellence throughout his career, and his numerous accomplishments indeed merit special praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas Legislature hereby commend Dr. James Franklin Scudday on his exceptional service to Sul Ross State University and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Scudday as an expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives.
