Mrs. Lincoln’s 3rd Grade Classroom Handbook
This is my tenth year teaching and I absolutely love it! The children
will be learning about many exciting topics this year! I am very much
looking forward to establishing meaningful relationships with both of
you. I promise to try my very best in providing your children with
many authentic and positive learning experiences that I am sure they
will enjoy. I hope your children are as excited about their third grade
year as I am. Please never hesitate to contact me. I can be reached
at school (636-464-4451) or through email
(mdreyer@windsor.k12.mo.us). This is going to be a FANTASTIC year!
This handbook explains some specifics that occur in our classroom.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
This year the students and I will create our classroom expectations
together. In the past years, the expectations below have been
implemented in our classroom. I’m sure the expectations we decide on
as a class will be along the same lines as the ones below.
1. Use kind words.
2. Think before acting.
3. Follow directions the first time given.
4. Turn in homework on time.
5. Have a positive attitude.
6. Always say, “PLEASE” & “THANK YOU!”
7. Be quick to forgive.
8. Listen.
9. Share.
10. Encourage others.
If the expectations we decide on are not followed, the children will
have consequences. We use a color system in our room. There are five
different colors (blue, white, yellow, orange, and red).
Each color is represented as follows:
Blue: Occasionally students will have an “Outstanding” day and will be
rewarded by moving up to blue from white.
White: Everyone starts out on the red carpet. It’s been a good day!
No color will be stamped in the planner for a white day.
Yellow: Just a warning however, a note will also be written in planner.
He/she will spend 5 minutes of recess reflecting on his/her behavior
and how to make better choices next time.
Orange: Call home. He/she will spend 10 minutes of recess reflecting
on his/her behavior and how to make better choices next time.
Red: Discipline referral and he/she will speak with Mr. Carlton or Mr.
Holland regarding his/her behavior choices.
You will be kept aware of your child’s daily behavior. I will stamp the
color he/she received in his/her planner everyday. However, no stamp
color indicates your child stayed on the red carpet throughout the
whole day.
S.T.A.R. FOLDER
Each child will receive his/her own S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Academic
Responsibility) Folder. One pocket is labeled “Going Home” and the
other is labeled “Coming to School.” This folder will help keep the
children organized. Homework, graded papers, lunch money, notes
from home, notes from school, book orders, etc., will all be
transported through their S.T.A.R. Folders. Please go through these
folders daily with your child.
PLANNERS
The school was able to purchase every child a planner and we are going
to make full use of them. I believe that daily planners are an excellent
way to keep the children organized as well as keeping you informed of
daily assignments and behavior. It is also a great way for you and I to
communicate. Always feel free to leave me notes in his/her planner
and I will be sure to see them each day. When the planners come
home, you should expect to see all of the assignments given, occasional
notes from me at the bottom, possibly a stamp color (or no color
representing a white day) indicating his/her behavior during the day,
as well as my signature. It will be mandatory for the children to have
these signed every night along with their Reading Recording Sheet.
Please help your child remember to show you his/her planner every
night.
SPECIAL CLASSES
We will have our special classes everyday of the week. These classes
include: physical education, health, music, art, library, and computer
lab. Please make sure your child always wears his/her tennis shoes on
the days we have physical education. Also, please help your child
remember his/her library book when we have library.

TOYS/CELL PHONES
Toys of any kind are prohibited at school. If brought, I will confiscate
them. Cell phones that are out of your child’s book bag will be taken
and given to the principal. Parents will be responsible for getting the
phone from this point. Please keep them at home.
BOOKS
The children will have access to our classroom library many times
throughout the day. I have tried very hard over the years to purchase
many books the children will find interesting. Please help me to
encourage the children on how important it is to take care of our
books.
