Press release issued by Michael McSherry, Red Room Events, Ltd. 7th December 2005. mike@redroomevents.co.uk 07915612309 FAO The editor. Starts New Life for Old Favourite Routemaster RM 2635, built in 1966 and formerly of the number 19 and 72 routes and operating out of the Tottenham depot, has had something of a transformation. It was bought by a group of friends who had grand designs. C-owner Dominic said: "The idea came when we first read about the decommissioning of London Routemasters. They are such friendly vehicles to look at and people always want to run after and jump on the back – even if they don’t want to go where the bus is going! We bought the bus in November of last year and then spent the next 6 months turning it into a bar and venue. It was hard work, and done mostly in our spare time and we're really proud of the final product which we think is extremely unique and stylish”. They named the bus The Red Room and it now has an upper deck lounge with wall mounted LCDs and full AV, oak coffee tables and bunkette style seating. The lower deck has an oak bar, a reception area and leatherette seats, while out side a continental style awning hangs over a flexible area which can be used for extra seating or an outside bar. An extra screen can be added and linked up to the AV circuit and outside speakers provide the music. The original hard wood and cork floor has been restored throughout the bus. The Red Room is co-owned by 4 brothers and 2 friends. Kieron and Brendan McSherry, who run Solid Soul Design, were in charge of the new design. Talking about the project Kieron said: "This was a great project to work on because we were given a very free hand in the designs. Everyone loves the Routemasters and there peculiar shape and spaces offered a great design challenge. We are very pleased with the way it worked out." Brendan added: "We also had the advantage of working along side an expert in event production and were able to plan in many technical features that add a great deal to the functioning of the Red Room. Tony’s experience as a television sound engineer was invaluable when he designed the AV wiring and hardware. It means we are perfectly equipped for product launches and press conferences etc but also private and corporate parties and days at the races or the Regatta. We have built in lots of branding opportunities but retain the comfort, style and uniqueness”. Solid Soul designs regularly appear in the pages of lifestyle magazines such Living etc. Elle Decor, and The Times Magazine, IDFX, Living Interiors and Concept for Living. Red Room Events became a limited company in the summer and exhibited at the London Venue Expo where it earned a fantastic reception. In September it had its inaugural booking at Millennium Square, Bristol, for B2B West. The remaining co-owners are Michael McSherry, Tony Frances and Phil O’driscoll. Ends. Notes for the Editor.
