The Arizona Historical Society Museum at Papago Park is looking for Collections Interns. Interns will learn how museum collections function within the Society including proper object handling techniques, how to accession objects into the Societies Collections, proper storage of various objects, research and write exhibit labels, exhibit instillation and how to make object encapsulations and mounts. Internships are only granted to those who are part of a program with a supervisor directly related to History, Art History and/or Museum Studies. Interns are requested to be able to work in at least 3 hour blocks ranging from 10-20 hours a week on a Monday through Thursday schedule, Fridays are negotiable depending upon necessity. Interns must be computer literate and willing to learn new software programs. Strong communication, written and listening skills are a must. Manual dexterity and excellent eye-hand coordination are desirable. Candidates must be capable of working both in a team as well as on their own. Interns are expected to be punctual, professional, dependable, and respectful. Time management and attention to detail are expected, willingness to collaborate and ask questions when needed is encouraged. Interns will be expected to keep track of their own hours in an Excel spreadsheet which is to be submitted every month for verification of completion of needed hours so honesty is a must.
