Sir Henry Jr. was born in 1859. He set a world record in the mile
age 20.
- He triumphed in the stock market, mining, and forestry.
- He brought electricity to Toronto, for the electric streetcars or
horseless carriages, as they were called.

wealthiest, so he hired Architect E.J. Lennox to design Casa
Loma
The castle:
- it has 98 rooms and construction began in 1911
- It took 300 workers from Canada and Europe 3 years to
complete.
- The cost was 3.5 million Canadian, which today translates to
over 100 million US dollars.
- The Great Hall has hand crafted Oak ceiling, 60 feet high
- The Library shelves held more than 10, 000 books.
- The Dining Room has a large marble manor fireplace.
- The Wine Cellar could hold over 1700 bottles of wine.
- The Windsor Room, intended for Royal family visits was goldleafed.

- The stain glass dome in the Conservatory cost more than

- The property is 15 acres, which is very large for the city of
Toronto.
- Horses stables cost $250,000. to build which is over 7 million US dollars
today.
- The stables were constructed of Mahogany with Spanish tiles on
the floors.
- The stables were connected to the rest of the property with an
800’ long tunnel under the road.
- The castle was sold in 1924, with Sir Henry broke.
