Teacher’s Notes (Instructions)
Objective
This animation aims at teaching pupils how to write instructions.
Suggested Teaching Procedures
Exercise keeps you strong
 Watch the animation about Harry and Lily. Click ‘Play’ to watch the exercises.
 Write the four instructions on the board.
What are instructions?
 Continue watching the animation that introduces instructions.
 Explain to pupils that a sentence starts with a noun (e.g. a name) and an
instruction starts with a verb.
Teddy picks up the ball.  a sentence
Pick up the ball.  an instruction
 Show more examples to pupi1s by clicking ‘More examples’.
 Invite pupils to circle the verbs on the instructions written on the board.
 Invite pupils to suggest more examples of instructions.
e.g.
Clean the board.
Close the door.
Open the window.
Activity 1: Verbs in the instructions
 Drag the suitable verbs in the box to the space provided in each instruction. The
teddy bear will act out the instruction if the answer is correct.
Let’s make a sandwich – Putting instructions together
 Watch the animation about Harry making a sandwich in the kitchen.
 Tell pupils that we put a few instructions together when we tell others to do
something with different steps.
Activity 2: Putting instructions together
 Drag the instructions at the bottom of the page to the right place on the recipe.
 Click the left/right arrows to see the different steps again.
 Click ‘Print’ to print out the recipe.
Let’s make a salad – Writing instructions
Task 1: Writing instructions
 Tell pupils that they are going to write the instructions of making a salad.
 Watch the making of a salad carefully.
 Click ‘HINT’ and read the words they can use in the popup screen.
 Click the arrows to see the pictures of the steps again.
 Note: All six steps has to be filled in for the ‘Preview’ function to be
activated.
 Type the steps in the suitable space.
 Tell pupils to click ‘Preview’ and read their instructions when they have finished.
 Click ‘Print’ to print out their work.
 Click ‘Sample Answer’ to check their work against the sample answer.
Task 2: Write your own instructions
 Tell pupils that they will try writing instructions themselves.
 First of all, choose and click one of the three boxes. Pupils can choose to write
about making a Special Orange Drink, a Paper Lantern, or anything else they can
imagine (the question mark).
 For the Special Orange Drink and the Paper Lantern, click ‘Play’ and watch the
steps.
 Click ‘Help’ to get the verbs to write the instructions.
 Click ‘Words you can use’ and read the suggested words in the popup.
 Click ‘More steps’ if pupils want to write more than five steps.
 Remind pupils to give a name (title) to their instructions.
 Click ‘Preview’ to read their work.
 Click ‘Sample Answers’ to read the sample answers of Special Orange Drink and
the Paper Lantern.
 Click ‘Print’ to print out their instructions.
 For the box with a question mark, encourage pupils to think of something they
want to make and write down the steps. Ask them to draw the thing in the box on
the printout.
