Students are placed in classes suited to their level of Chinese ability; which is determined by a placement test. 3. Both pinyin and bopomofo systems are introduced, together with standard (traditional) and simplified Chinese characters in the textbooks 4. All classes are small (6~10 students), and designed to meet students’ specific needs, so as to enhance their knowledge of the language and culture as effectively as possible. Cultural Courses 1. 2 hours per class, 1 classes per week 2. Topics include Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Opera, Chinese Kung-fu, Chinese Music and Dancing, Chinese Culinary Arts, Chinese Paper Cutting, Chinese Medicine, etc. 3. Best facilities We have 100 classrooms, a library, a kitchen, a multimedia center with 100+ computers with Internet access, multimedia classrooms, language labs, and an extracurricular activities office. Most students Approximately 1,400 students register each term, and classes are organized according to Chinese proficiency. Pedagogical research We are leading research on Internet-based Chinese language education, and have established the national system for the Chinese Proficiency Test. Most short-term study tours Most students and countries select us as their first choice to study Mandarin Chinese. In addition, since 1999 universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, Williams College, UC-Berkeley, UC-Santa Barbara, Wellesley College, the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, Ritsmeikan University, and Hankuk University among others have joined our short-term study tours.
