Employees don’t quit organizations, they quit because of their supervisors. Study after study supports the notion that an employee’s immediate supervisor has a profound impact on his or her effectiveness, productivity, happiness, and even their health. Although managers play a critical role in an organization, there is a big difference between being a manager and being a leader. And there’s a difference between being a leader and being a truly inspiring leader. And no, I’m not talking about charisma (at least not in the traditional sense of the word) or leadership through the force of a person’s gregarious personality. I’m talking about a leadership style that anyone can embrace to build a more inspiring culture, to truly engage employees, and to drive better results in your workplace... leadership that turns your employees’ passion into action. There are thousands of leadership trainers and programs available, so it’s important to compare Michael’s perspective and focus with that of other presentations. With more than 20 years’ experience and research into the role of humour and creativity in the workplace, Michael will emphasize how a manager’s sense of humour can help them lead, and the role that leaders play in fostering a more fun, innovative, and creative workplace culture. His presentation touches on many essential aspects of leadership, but emphasizes what it takes for a leader to foster a less stressful, more fun, more positive, and more creative workplace culture. 6
