Innovating towards a sustainable energy future Interview with Yuri Sebregts Yuri Sebregts Chief Technology Officer, Royal Dutch Shell [Yuri] My name is Yuri Sebregts, and I'm the Chief Technology Officer of Shell. If you look at some of the statistics, the world population grows by the size of the city of Paris every 11 days. If you combine that with growing wealth in the world that means that world energy consumption doubles by 2050. That in turn leads to great challenges for resources, because the water, food and energy systems in the world are tightly linked. For instance, you need water to extract energy, but you also need energy to transport water, and you need water and energy to grow food. Energy companies have to make a contribution, but they cannot do this alone. We need the best technologies that are available to be deployed, and also innovation to create new solutions.
