Heroes of the American
Revolution
An Oral Presentation
Due: February 7, 2011
To improve your ability in public speaking as well as
develop knowledge about a specific topic in American
History, you will be making an oral presentation on one of
the many heroes of the American Revolution. Projects will
be presented to the class beginning on Monday, February 7,
2011. It will take several days to complete the
presentations, but the order will not be determined until
the due date. Because of this, all students must be
prepared to present on February 7.
Each student must pick a subject from the attached list and
prepare a five to seven minute presentation about the
topic. Only one student per subject will be permissible
for this assignment. I will attempt to give students a
choice, but will resort to a lottery system if necessary to
fairly distribute the topics.
The purpose of your presentation is to inform the class
about your topic. Key issues should be focused upon in
detail rather than broadly covering the topic with
insignificant information. This is not a biography.
Explain and describe the impact your individual had on the
American Revolution. An organizer is attached to help you.
Create a vivid, inviting poster to provide a number of
visuals that will enhance your presentation. Visuals may
include items such as timelines, pictures, illustrations,
documents, or other artifacts that will help your
classmates better comprehend your presentation. As you
develop your presentation, make sure you practice pausing
every once in a while since you will be teaching your
classmates, and they will be taking notes from your talk.
This is a short term project, so you should get to work
right away. Good Luck!
