Dear NRP Course Participant:
Thank you for registering for the NRP Program, 6th Edition from the American Academy of
Pediatrics. The NRP Provider Course is designed for healthcare providers whose responsibilities
may require them to participate in neonatal resuscitations. This program teaches the
knowledge and skills required to resuscitate newborns. While this course does not guarantee
proficiency during an actual resuscitation, it lays the foundation that enables participants to
continue development of these skills.
You need to read and study the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition and complete
the online written examination prior to the start of the course.
TEXT:
A comprehensive instructional textbook, which includes an interactive, multi-media DVD-ROM,
forms the basic educational component of the program and is available for purchase from the
AAP Online Bookstore. You can purchase a hard-copy of this text from our facility by calling
(408) 246-0311 or by visiting our website at www.heartsharetraining.com.
EXAM:

The NRP Online Examination, 6th Edition assesses knowledge of the causes, prevention, and
management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia. After studying the NRP textbook, learners
take the online examination by clicking the link above or by following directions given to you by
your hospital. Upon successful completion of the online examination, learners must print the
verification of completion and present it to their NRP instructor for skills training, simulation,
and debriefing.
Please note: The minimum requirement to get a NRP completion card is that learners need only
complete lessons 1-4 and lesson 9; however, most employers want all 9 lessons completed. If
your employer requires you to complete all 9 lessons of the online exam, you must do lesson 9
LAST. Additionally, the practical portion of the NRP class must be completed within 30 days of
completing the online exam. There are no exceptions.
About the Course:
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Heart Association initiated the
Neonatal Resuscitation Program in the early 1980’s. This is a standard course created to meet
the AAP recommendation that every birth be attended by at least one person whose primary
responsibility is to initiate Neonatal Resuscitation and either that person, or another person
who is immediately available, be able to perform all skills required for complete resuscitation.
To maintain your NRP Provider status you must renew every two years. You will receive an
email reminder from HeartShare Training Services Inc. prior to the expiration of your card. You
must then attend another course prior to the expiration deadline.
All participants should understand that successful completion of this course does not guarantee
their performance during an actual emergency.
Cancellation Policy:
All fees are non-refundable and may be used as a credit towards another course provided the
student gives a full 14 working days notice to the training center. A full refund will be provided
if the course is cancelled by the training center.
