Text-based Seminar Rubric Seminar Text: Name: Date: Assessment Categories Comments Number of Comments - Step up to speak AND step back to listen to others. High quality participation that shows thoughtful responses to others’ comments; not just speaking to earn points. Quality of Comments - Offer a new idea, not yet expressed, take a new approach to previously stated ideas and apply the habits of mind, or offer a new thread of relevant discussion. Ask a deep and interesting question to keep the discussion flowing once a thread has been exhausted. Respond to Others - Make direct reference to others’ comments and respond to what they have said (merely repeating what they said with their name does not count): agree or disagree, but elaborate and offer a new idea. Engage in active listening when classmates are speaking. If disagreements occur, respond respectfully and thoughtfully. Talk across Texts - Refer to concrete examples from the text for evidence. Cite specific scenes and/or page numbers. Make connections across texts (i.e., connect to another text you have read or film you have seen in or out of school). Make connections between texts and life to show relevance. Literary Analysis - Analyze themes found throughout the text. Show comprehension and a close reading of the text in a way that enables deep thinking and analysis. What grade do you think you deserve based on your seminar participation?
