Health and Fitness Retreat
Based at An Cridhe and Coll Bunkhouse, Isle of Coll
Monday 8th to Friday 12th September 2014
Overview:
Enjoy a fully catered short break on the Isle of Coll with the focus being on healthy living. These breaks
are ideal for anyone wanting to kick start a healthy living regimen or as a boost to an ongoing healthy
lifestyle. In addition to health and fitness related workshops, enjoy a range of activities including cycling,
beach walks and an Island tour.
After an initial individual assessment the week will be filled with a range of Health and Fitness activities
including gym, core stability, stretch and resistance training sessions, beach walks, cycling and an Island
tour. Short workshops covering healthy eating and the benefits of exercise will provide a break from
activity, the week ending with an individual long term planning session. Additional activities such as
Kayaking, Badminton and Table tennis are available.
Programme:
Monday 8th May
You will be met at the pier on Coll at 10.55am by Carol Flett, your group leader for the next 4 days.
Luggage will be transported to Coll bunkhouse which is a short walk or cycle away. Once settled in you
will have a chance to meet with the rest of the group and hear about plans for the next 4 days. The
afternoon includes a tour of the West End of the Island including the RSPB centre, views of the castles and
a visit to a beach. You will also do an introductory gym session which will be relevant to individuals
experience and level of fitness. There will be time to explore the village using a self guided tour. After
dinner some of the guests will have an individual meeting with Carol to discuss issues arising from pre
forms that have been completed.
Tuesday 9th May
In the morning, more of the group will have an individual meeting with Carol and the day’s group
activities start at 9.30am with a core stability session followed by team building games in the hall. A
healthy eating session is straight after lunch followed by a cycle ride out to and walk up Ben Hough, for
some stunning views from the Islands highest hill.
Wednesday 10th May
The day starts with a group session discussing the benefits of exercise followed by a team competition
which takes place around the village. After lunch, the group will cycle to the east end of the Island to visit
one of the Islands many beaches where there will be time for a quick swim in the sea. After returning to
the village there is just time for a group exercise session.
Thursday 11th May
On the final full day, each person will have an individual meeting with Carol to reflect and make plans to
continue a healthy lifestyle. In addition to this there will be a team gym challenge and the opportunity to
cycle to another beach, to kayak in Arinagour bay or to enjoy some free time. You are invited to join the
Island Circuit Training class at 6pm and the last night dinner will be at 8pm in the Bunkhouse.
Friday 12th May
Luggage will be collected at 9.30am and taken to the pier giving you time to walk or cycle to the pier for
the 10.15am ferry to Oban.
Other Information:
All meals will be taken in Coll Bunkhouse and will be prepared by local catering company, Coastal Larder.
Meals will be freshly prepared using local produce wherever possible and special dietary requirements
will be catered for. Breakfast will be at 8am each day, Lunch will be between 12noon and 1pm and a 2
course evening meal will be served at 6.30pm except for the final night when dinner will be at 8pm.
Drinks and snacks will be available during the afternoon.
Accommodation will be at Coll Bunkhouse, our new, purpose built hostel. Most of the activities including
individual meetings, gym sessions and indoor exercise sessions will take place at An Cridhe
(www.ancridhe.com). Information sheets accompany most practical and theory sessions. The programme
may be subject to slight changes due to weather etc.
The total price of the 4 day, fully catered break including activities is £300. Included in the price is
unlimited gym use during your stay and use of the hall to play badminton and table tennis. Not included
in the cost of the break are bike hire (contact the Post Office on 01879 230329 and kayak hire (contact
Carol Flett on 01879 230436).

on Calmac ferries and we encourage you to bring your own, if possible.

and return. This is to find out about your current health status, any exercise you already do, what your
short and long term aims are and any relevant dietary information.)
The fitness instructor is Carol Flett. Carol has been holidaying on Coll since she was a young girl and now
lives on the Island. She previously worked at Moray College, UHI in the sport department where she
taught students to become fitness instructors. She has also worked for the Scottish Institute of Sport as a
Strength and Conditioning Coach. Carol believes that health and fitness are about making life long
commitments that are realistic. Rather than finding yourself being pushed to your limits and ending the
day hungry, Carol hopes you will enjoy the week, the activities and the food and go home refreshed and
focused on leading a healthy lifestyle.
