YOUTH FOR SEVA: ECO-FRIENDLY GANESHA 2014
Youth for Seva promotes of eco friendly way of celebrating Ganesha festival since the past 4
years to reduce water pollution and sustain our water bodies.
Eco-friendly Ganesha when immersed in water degrades faster and does not harm the
environment.
YFS organized Clay Ganesha workshop on 17th August, 2014, wherein 80 volunteers learnt
to make Ganesha idols out of clay. These 80 volunteers were then mapped across 50 Govt
Schools and 36 Slums across Hyderabad to train children and their families to make their
own Ganesha out of clay for worship.
All in all, YFS clay Ganesha initiative was a great success – we reached about 6000 kids and
their families.
Volunteers’ Feedback:1. Srikanth: I am very fortunate to be a part of YFS Hyderabad, Clay Ganesha
Workshop since 2 years. It is always a joyful feeling to create different idols with our
own creativity and efforts. The best part is training students in schools about its
importance and how to make our own eco-friendly clay Ganesha. It is always
surprising to see the enthusiasm of students to participate and their creativity has
no bounds in making different idols. This year from Zone Four, total 9 volunteers
have trained students in 11 schools, 1 Boys hostel and a Community welfare center.
Overall the excitement and joy has increased many folds this year and very nice to
see that the awareness is increasing among people. I wish this initiative by YFS
reaches new heights in upcoming years.
2. Jayshree: My experience was mind bubbling and has been enthusiastically waiting
for next year to be once again a part of Clay Ganesha event. This year We are
privileged to cover even corporate schools like Bhavans, DAV etc. I was glad to see
the creativity of students and lump of mud getting converted into wonders. We are
expecting to reach maximum number of schools next year across Hyderabad.
