Concept Design Review (CoDR) Planning
The NEPTUNE Power System Concept Design Review will take place 10 – 11 June 2002 on the
University of Washington Campus.
The purpose of this memorandum is to:
 Define the scope of the review,
 List the reviewers and participants,
 Describe the documentation that will be available,
 Define the expected products and timetable, and
 Present the agenda.
Scope of the CoDR
The purpose of the Review is to ensure that the design is progressing appropriately, and to
identify possible deficiencies and suggest corrective actions. It is a concept review, so concrete
solutions for some aspects of the system may not exist yet.
This review will be followed by a NEPTUNE Concept Design Review planned for 10-12
September 2002. A Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for the Power System will follow later in
the year.
Process
The process used in the Review will be to have presentations by the Project to the Board on all
aspects of the work. Areas reviewed include the project management (risk, cost, schedule etc),
mission assurance, as well as the technical aspects of the development.
The Board will note any area of concern, and document the concern on a Request For Action
form, along with any suggestions for resolution that they may have.
After each day’s presentations, the Board will work with the Project to dispose of the RFAs. This
means the concern will be classified as Accepted for Action, Accepted as Advisory or Rejected.
The rationale for the disposition will be documented.
At the end of the Review, all RFA dispositions will be included in the presentation of the
Board’s Summary.
Review Board
The Review will be conducted by a Board comprised of recognized external authorities in the
various fields relevant to the power system (see table). The Review will be open to all
NEPTUNE participants and other interested parties.

Documentation
All material will be the web site and available to participants. The existing web site is
http://cialab.ee.washington.edu/neptune; the existing ftp site is cialab.ee.washington.edu,
username neptune, password neptune. The latter has many of the relevant files but is not so easy
to navigate. A new combined site is in preparation and will replace these very soon; you will be
notified as to this change.
The following material will be provided all reviewers and project personnel in hard copy form
and on CD; it will be available on CD to other participants upon request.

Expected Products
The minutes of the Review will be prepared by Howe and circulated to the Review Board
members and project personnel for review before being posted on the web site by 14 June. All
presentation material will also be placed on the web site.
The report on the Review, summarizing the major findings, including major outstanding
questions and weaknesses, will be prepared by the Chair with assistance from the members. It
will be submitted by 18 June and will be posted on the web site.
The entire web site, containing all the NEPTUNE power system documentation to date will be
copied to CD and made available to interested parties.
The report will be presented at the NEPTUNE-wide meeting scheduled for 29 July – 2 August
and at the NEPTUNE-wide Concept Design Review, presently planned for 10 – 12 September
2002.
Agenda
The draft agenda follows. Much of the first morning material is overview; one member may
