Seats on Council to be Filled via Voting Process
Arlington, Va. -- The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Alliance for Telecommunications
Industry Solutions (ATIS) announced today that the first meeting of the Part 68 Administrative Council for Terminal
Attachments (ACTA) will take place May 2, 2001, in Bethesda, Md.
ACTA is the newly-formed industry council for Part 68 certification requirements and administration following the
FCC's decision to privatize its Part 68 responsibilities and select TIA and ATIS to serve as joint sponsors of the
council. ACTA will be responsible for adopting and publishing technical criteria for terminal equipment submitted
to it by American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited standards development organizations, and
operating and maintaining a database of approved terminal equipment, among other duties.
According to TIA and ATIS, ACTA will consist of 18 representatives from six distinct interest segments, with each
interest segment electing two primary voting members, and one alternate non-voting member. The interest segments
are as follows: local exchange carriers; interexchange carriers; terminal equipment manufacturers; network
equipment manufacturers; testing laboratories; and other interested parties. Additionally, a non-voting category
called "invited observer" will include members approved on a case-by-case basis by the Council.
A non-voting chair of ACTA will be selected by the council following a nomination process. The chair and
individual council members will be eligible to serve up to two, two-year terms.
The nomination deadline for council member candidates is March 7, 2001, and the nomination deadline for ACTA
chair is April 18, 2001.
