Starr and Mersh, Yvonne Reigle, ATIS Director of Technology Development yreigle@atis.org ATIS is pleased to share with you the newly-released Operational Opportunities and Challenges of SDN/NFV Programmable Infrastructure, created by the ATIS SoftwareDefined Networking Focus Group over a six-month effort ending in October 2013. This document identifies operational issues and opportunities associated with increasing programmability of network infrastructure. ____________________ The document also identifies likely changes in operational procedures and staffing skill sets required to support increasing programmability. Use cases and areas of needed standardization were identified as time permitted. The document does not lay out specific technical solutions, protocols, and data models. Standards that Drive the Business of Communications ____________________ As a next step, ATIS plans to conduct an analysis of existing standards with a focus on northbound APIs to identify missing functionality, opportunities, and implications for ATIS deliverables related to programmable infrastructure. ATIS will also analyze existing open source initiatives (e.g., OpenStack, OpenDaylight) to identify opportunities for synergy in the area of programmable infrastructure. Lastly, ATIS will continue to focus on OSS/BSS requirements. This document is being provided only for the purpose of the Broadband Forum.
