Problem
I have been teaching English for mang? years,during my
teaching course,I always find mang? students are weak in
memorizing English words.Memorizing few words causes them
losing interest of learning English.As we know,the word is the base
of
learning
English,if
we
can`t
memorize
English
words
well,we`llnever learn English well.
Problem analysis
Why the students can`t memorize English words well?I think
there are three reasons.First,they can`t pronounce the words
correctly,because they are weak in phonetic symbols and they have
no confidence in the words` pronunciation.Second,I think they have
no good methods of memorizing English words.Third, I think the
students can`t memorize English words according to the theory of
memory.
Solve the problemthe solution of the problem
How to slove the problem?First, I think they must know the
importance of learning phonetic symbols well, only have they
learned them well,they can pronounce the words correctly and
easily,so,it necessary to teach the students how to pronounce the
phonetic
symbols
well.Second,there
are
mang?
metheds
of
memorizing English,but I think the best way to memorize words is to
unite the pronunciation and spelling.Pronunciation and spelling
union can help the students memorize English words easily and
quickly.Third,I`ll tell my students to memorize English words
according to the theory of memory,so that they can memorize
English words quickly.
Practice course design
1.Phonetic symbols practice design
In order to show the students how to read the words,I`ll teach
them how to read the phonetic symbols.As we know,there are 48
phonetic symbols all together,twenty wovels and
twenty-eight
consonants.For junior middle school students,it`s enough to read the
phonetic symbols correctly.In this course,I `ll spend a week to teach
the phonetics,thirty minutes every day,one day teach vowels,next day
review vowels and teach consonants,and go on.Prectice makes
perfect, I asked them to read and read,and read aloud to can be
heard clearly,they won`t stop practising until they can pronounce the
phonetics correctly.
2.Memorize words design
After the students learn the phonetics well,I`ll teach them how
to memorize the new words.There are so
many words in English
language,I think the most important is to master a good method of
memorizing words.Before I teach my students new words,I`ll
introduce them the best way to memorize words:Pronunciation and
spelling union,what is it meaning?That is when you read a word,you
must pronounce first,as you pronounce it,you should pay attention to
the spelling of the words,see which alphabet sounds which phonetic
symbol,and which alphabet doesn`t sound,then you can memorize
the word according to it`s proununciation and spelling.For example,
safety, we can read its sound/`seifti/,and we can see ``s``sounds
/s/,a□e sounds/ei/and ty sounds/ti/.Then we can memorize this
word by reading /`seifti/ first,then unit the spelling
S-A-F-E-T-Y,after you read several times,you can memorize it
quickly at the first time,so do other words. When you memorize
the word at first,you must review it for several times,then
you can keep the word in your mind.But we know,we can remember
words quickly,and forget them quickly.How will we solve this
problem?According
to
a
German
psychologist
called
Abinhous( 艾宾浩斯)`s theory of forgetting,we can practice
the skill of memorizing.Abinhous` theory has discovered the
relation between the period you review and the words you can
keep in your mind。It is the following

According to the above table,I design four periods for
students to memorize English words,the first period is
when they start to learn the words in the moring?, they
should remember some easy words,for
the difficult
words ,I ask them to pronounce correctly,and remember
their pronunciations first.The second period is they
review the words they have just learnt in the morning at
about 7-9PM,because in that time period ,a person`s memory
is in good situation andthey can remember something
quickly,
and this time,I
ask them to remember the words
as they write,they must write the words they learnt in the
morning,so that they can keep the words in mind.Maybe at
this time,only a few too difficult words are hard to
memorize,it does`t matter,they can memorize in the third
period,that is,they must review the words the next
morning.And in this time,they must memorize all the words
they learnt the day before,fir the too difficult
words,they must write as they read,make sure they can
remember all the words this time.The fourth period is,when
they do some exercises after they learnt the words,they
must keep the words in mind when they meet or use them.After
the above four periods,you can remember the words in
mind.Of course,if you want to keep the words in your mind
for ever,you should review another several times,after one
month or two months when tou are free.
5.Practice result
After a series of practice courses,I found most of my
students improve a lot in memorizing words and learning
English.Before the project,only one tenth of my students
can remember the words by memorizing and memorizing,
another two fifths of the students only can follow me. And
not good at English,another half of the students have no
interests in learning English.Now,half of my students are
very good at English learning,ninety percent of my
students are insterested in learning English,only a few
students can`t follow me,I`ll find another way to help
them.
6.Conclusion
I think it`s important to master correct methods in
learn English,only have good methods,can you have the
ability of learning,then you can learn English well.
