BUSINESS MEETING
Our regular business meeting this month is on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 7:30 P.M., we
will start the new fraternal year with new Officers. Grand Knight Al Garza invites all
Brother Knights to attend the August meeting.
PRAYER REQUESTS
We ask that you keep the following Brother Knights who are ill and their families in your
prayers. They are SK Brother Ray Salazar, Brother Knight Frank Haberer, Deacon Brother
Knight John Riojas, and SK Brother Alfonso Rodriguez. Brother Alex Rocha. We also ask
that you keep Brother Alex (Hondo) Verver in your prayers; he is seeking a second opinion
on his medical condition at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Please keep him and
family in your prayers. Also keep KC Lady Teresa Morales wife of Brother Joe Morales in
your prayers she was back in the hospital last week. As of Sunday night August 4 she was at
home recovering.
FROM THE DESK OF THE GRAND KNIGHT
Since I was not able to give a speech in the Installation of Officers Ceremony, I would like to take this opportunity to
recognize and personally thank the outgoing officer's Jim Coy Past Grand Knight; Pete Rangel, Advocate; Lee Verver,
Treasurer; and Alex Verver, Warden for their dedication and service to the Knights as officers the past numerous
years.
Other Brother Knights who I would like to recognize are: Fund Raiser Coordinator, Joe Hernandez; Golf Tournament
Coordinator Jesse Reyna; and Membership Director, Eric Martinez; Retention Committee; Paul DeBarro, who I will
be seeking their continued support, advise, knowledge and experience as I assume the helm. Special thanks to all the
Brother Knights who continue to support the council by being active and making your self available in all the
activities and events held by the Knights of Columbus. I am looking forward for your continued support the coming
year.
Again, thanks for your confidence in giving me the opportunity to serve and fulfill the duties of Grand Knight. I
was hesitant to accept these responsibilities and hope that I am able to achieve and provide the leadership to guide the
council in service to family, Santa Cruz and the community during this Fraternal Year.
As any organization, the success of the council will depend on each and every one of us to support the goals of the
council which will require team work. In the coming weeks I will be meeting with the new officers. Past officers and
directors to discuss and determine goals for the council. If you have any recommendations or input, please email them

KC SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
It is with great pleasure to announce the recipients of the Knights of
Columbus Scholarships for the year 2013. The Scholarship committee met and
decided to award the following four seniors a $1,000.00 scholarship each for
their freshman year of college of choice. The total of scholarship funds
awarded is $4,000.00. Recipients are:

KC CORPORATE MASS
Our Corporate Communion Mass was held on Sunday July 21, 2013 at the 11 A.M. mass. It was well attended by our
Brother Knights and their families. We thank every one who attended the mass.
KC AND KC LADIES MEMBERS
The Retired Knights of Columbus and KC Ladies Breakfast Club met at Casa Alde in downtown Buda, on
Wednesday July 17, 2013 at 8:30 A.M. We had a few members and a few wives who attended the breakfast, we had a
great time. This month we will meet again at Casa Alde in downtown Buda on Wednesday August 21, 2013. Come
and visit with friends if you can. We will get FREE COFFEE with our breakfast. Please pick up your own tab. The
KCLA Ladies enjoyed visiting with the other KC Ladies in a group and the men in another group. The KC Ladies
began joining us for breakfast, and are always welcome to join us. Any and all Knights and KC Ladies are invited. Al
Garza or I will send out a reminder each month the week before and it will also be in the newsletter for those that do
not have e-mail. Any questions call Al Garza at (512) 295-4260. We would like to have more of our KC Ladies
members or girl friends of our KC members attend. Come on Ladies.
BINGO
Let’s keep the Bingo going strong in 2013 by coming and helping at the Bingo. We are asking every member to
donate one Sunday afternoon a month and help us at the Bingo. Time is from 12:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. This is
our only fund raiser that we have to support our activities that we do, and to support our church and our
Catholic school here at Santa Cruz. So why not come and join us only one Sunday a month. You pick your
Sunday.

The Blessed Mother Assembly has their 4th Degree meeting on the 4th Wednesday of each month, at the KC Hall in

recovering.

2013.

Pray for Our Pope Francis, for Peace in the World, for our President and his advisors, and
for the safety of our military men and women who are proudly serving our country in the Middle East and

want to give out the year you were born, but in order for us to put you into the system we also need the year you
