JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Kennel Attendant- PT DEPARTMENT: Noah’s Animal Shelter REPORTS TO: Noah’s Animal Shelter Manager FSLA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary Under the general supervision, maintains sanitary conditions if kennels and provides care for animals within the animal shelter; and performs related duties as required. Duties and Responsibilities Cleans and maintains animal cages and surrounds areas including floors and hallways. Receives animals from clients and places the animals in kennels; moves animals from on area to another when inspecting and cleaning cages; releases animals to their lawful owners. Prepare food and feed all animals at the animal Shelter. Clean and bathes animals; exercises animals as required. Inspects animals for sign of sickness and disease. Prepare reports on incidents involving animals confined to the animal shelter. May assist shelter manager by caring for sick or injured animals. Other duties as assigned. Education, Training and Experience Requirements General knowledge of: methods and techniques of animal care; health and hygiene of animals; various breeds of dogs and cats; departmental operating policies and procedures related to the animal shelter and laws and ordinances. Ability to: clean and maintain kennels using appropriate cleaning supplies, equipment, and chemicals; feed, move, and handle animals without causing harm or injury to the animal; detect symptoms of animal disease; follow safety procedures in controlling and handling animals; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain accurate records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and communicate effectively in verbal and written communication. Graduation from high school, or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in cleaning and maintaining kennels and providing care for animals within a animal shelter, veterinary office, animal hospital, pet store, or other closely related agency or organization. Physical Requirements Constant mental alertness and attention to detail. Must be able to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Must be able to organize/prioritize workload to ensure completion of all tasks within established time frames. Must be able to work well under pressure. Must be able to read/write/speak basic sentences in English and possess minimal oral/written communication skills in order to communicate with clients, co-workers and management. Must exercise good judgment and common sense. Must walk for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to stand for short periods of time. Occasionally required to sit for short periods of time.
