During the one or two academic years following New Leaders’ Week, coordinate and facilitate a monthly, three-hour SEED seminar with up to 20 colleagues or peers on making curriculum, teaching methods, and school climates more gender-fair, multiculturally equitable, socioeconomically aware, and globally informed. 3. Submit three feedback forms for the SEED newsletter (in October, February, and June) during the course of the SEED seminar. 4. Participate in pre- and post-seminar evaluation surveys and phone interview. COSTS The cost for each New Leaders’ Week and year-long participation in SEED is: $3,900 fee per seminar leader (payable to the National SEED Project once the application is accepted). This fee covers tuition, room, meals, and all materials while at New Leaders’ Week. $1,000 budget per seminar for up to two years of books, handouts, DVDs, materials, and food, to be provided by the school/district to the seminar leader(s) (not to SEED) and handled locally. Travel costs to/from New Leaders’ Week, which are not paid for by SEED unless included in a grant. GRANTS Educators, community members, and parents connected with qualifying schools can apply for full grants (all above costs) or partial grants (up to $3,900) to offset the costs to the school or district for participation in the National SEED Project. SEED work invites the engagement of ideas, experiences, and identity. Participants develop ways of understanding complex relations between inner selves and outer systems with regard to race, class, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability/disability, and other lived cultural experience. Everyone at a SEED New Leaders’ Week becomes engaged in diversity work in both familiar and unfamiliar ways. 1. What has been your experience to date with the SEED Project? Full and Partial Grants This grant form must be completed by a school principal/head or organizational administrator authorized to approve and receive funding and to support all aspects of the SEED seminar, including finances, logistics, and promotion of equitable education in the institution. This grant form must accompany a completed SEED application by a person who wishes to become a SEED leader and an Administrative Support Form. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s recent grant to the National SEED Project enables us to award 6 full grants ($3900 per leader fee; $1000 per seminar for local expenses; all travel expenses to New Leaders’ Week). Additionally, SEED itself provides grants to some schools. The basic criteria for grants are: 1. Full grant applicant schools must have 50% or more of the students on free and reduced lunch. 2. Full grant applicant schools must have over 50% students of color. 3. The applicant must be highly motivated to take leadership in the development of a more equitable, multicultural, and gender fair school community. 4. The applicant school must display readiness and eagerness for participation in SEED. Schools applying for full Kellogg grants must meet all criteria above. Schools applying for partial grants must meet either criteria 1 or 2, plus criteria 3 and 4.
