The Five Parameters of ASL & More Classifiers
[MASL 1 Text p. 224 - 228]
1. The five parameters of ASL are the five component parts or visible features of each
sign. Spoken language has corresponding elements which consist of the smallest
sound segments of a word. Think about the difference between the spoken words cat
& bat or ten and tent. Notice how a very slight change in sound elements, called
phonemes, changes the whole meaning of the word. The same is true for a change in
any of the parameters of a sign. Name the five parameters of ASL in correct order.

to visualize these 2 different situations and explain in your own words why the
choice of classifiers would be different. ___________________________________
