SUTHERLAND HOUSE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S SERVICES THE ELIZABETH NEWSON CENTRE ASSISTANT CHILD AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S PSYCHOLOGIST JOB OUTLINE The Elizabeth Newson Centre was established in September 1994 on the site of the Early Years Department of Sutherland House School. Its focus is to provide a diagnostic and assessment service for the families of children with disorders of development and communication. For the majority of children, the service is purchased on an extra contractual or out of areas basis by Health Authorities or CCGs. The Centre also provides a psychology service to Sutherland House School which includes new admissions, review assessments and monitoring and observation of behaviour across all sites of the school. Autism East Midlands therapeutic and psychology service, is headed by Pat Smith (Specialist Child Psychologist), along with Sally Kane (Specialist Child Psychologist and Lead for Children and Young Adults). The team within children’s services presently includes two Assistant Psychologists and Administrative support. We are seeking to recruit two Assistants, one to commence July 2015 and one September 2015. This post will enable the successful candidate to build on and further develop skills and knowledge that will prepare them for professional training as a practitioner psychologist or related profession. We are able to provide initial training, thorough supervision and an excellent opportunity to gain detailed and varied experience in this area of work. This will include: Direct assessment and intervention with children and young people within the diagnostic service and Sutherland House School Observation and report writing Responsibility for providing a behaviour monitoring service Parent and family support, including siblings workshop Service evaluation Participation in conferences etc For more information visit www.autismeastmidlands.org.uk
