Dr. Shyamal Kumar Paul PhD (Japan), MPhil, MBBS is working as Assistant
Professor of the Department of Microbiology since 2010. After graduation from Sher e
bangla Medical College in 1988 and M Phil from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical
University (BSMMU) in 2003, started his teaching career as lecturer of Microbiology at
Mymensingh Medical College in 2003. He has been serving as Assistant Professor for
last 02 years. He was awarded a JSPS RONPAKU (Dissertation Ph D) Fellowship at
Sapporo Medical University School of Medicine, Japan from 2005 to 2009 and obtained
Ph D in 2009. His research topic was “genetic diversity of Rotavirus” He presented his
work and attended Seminar, symposiums in Different Universities in Japan including
Nagasaki and Nagoya University.
His area of research includes Virology, Bacteriology, and Epidemiology. He wrote
different chapter in two medical books including
Parasitology and Assessment of
Microbiology Till now he was co- supervisor of 20 Students of MPhil Microbiology
course under Dhaka University.
He published 30 original articles in peer reviewed journals of Home and abroad. He has
done extensive work with substantial output on Rotavirus and his major area of research in
Bacteriology include – Staphylococcus including MRSA& MRCoNS., Mycobacterium
tuberculosis including drug resistant TB, Lesihmania donovani, Genital Chlamydia
tracomatis, Diarrhogenic Esh coli, and Campylobacter.spp.
