Your Excellency,
Please allow me to draw your attention to the case of Ahmed Maher, Mohamed Adel and Ahmed
Douma. They were sentenced to three years imprisonment for breaking the protest law, which was
adopted last year. This law contravenes international human rights standards.
I urge you to order the immediate release of Ahmed Maher, Mohamed Adel and Ahmed Douma,
since they are detained solely for peacefully exercising their right to freedom of assembly and
freedom of expression. I call on you to order independent and impartial investigations into
allegations that the security forces beat Ahmed Maher, Mohamed Adel and Ahmed Douma in
detention.
I urge you to repeal the Law Regulating the Right to Public Gatherings, Processions and Peaceful
Protests (Law 107 of 2013), or amend it to bring it in line with international law and standards.
