William Wagley, 76, died suddenly of a heart attack at 8 p.m. Friday while he
and his employer Mrs. Lydia Husband, were taking a trailer-load of grain from the
Husband farm, 2 ½ miles southeast of here, to the Mumaw Feed and Coal Co. at this
place. Although Mr. Wagley had been in failing health for a year and a half, he had
assisted Mrs. Husband in loading the grain. A few blocks from their destination, Mrs.
Husband noticed that Mr. Wagley, in the back seat of the automobile, was breathing
heavily. Mrs. Husband drove the car to Dr. Eicher’s office where he died a few minutes
after his arrival.
Mr. Husband had worked on Mrs. Husband’s farm for 3 years. He was born May
24, 1867, in Marshal county. His mother was Elizabeth Kipster Wagley, who came from
Germany. Mr. Wagley’s wife, Laura Jennie Mikel Wagley, died in 1933. surviving are
four children, Mrs. Theodore Smith of Bremen, Mrs. Cecil Garver of Bristol and Mrs.
Eldon Miller and Orville Wagley of Mishawaka; 3 sisters, Mrs. Moses Sailor, Elkhart;
Mrs. John Mayer of Bourbon and Mrs. Samuel Walter of Oak Grove, and a brother, Ed of
Nappanee.
Funeral services were held at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at the Theodore Smith home 3 ½
miles north of Bremen, and at 2:15 at the Christian church, here. The Revs. K. F. Dodson
of Mishawaka and Gordon Kemble were in charge. Burial in North Union cemetery.
