DWD VACANCY NOTICE Reference No.: 45/H/2008-E/ Scientist to work on the assimilation of observations during the COPS-period Location: The job is in the data assimilation section within the business area ‘Research and Development’ at the DWD central office in Offenbach/Germany Environment: DWD, the national weather service of Germany, is a government agency with a responsibility to supply weather related information to the public. DWD operates a comprehensive system of Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models ranging from global to local scales. Initial states are prepared by independent data assimilation schemes. The models are run on the central computer facility. For further information see: www.dwd.de. Main duties: Preparation of the radial winds from the Doppler radars during the COPSperiod for assimilation in COSMO-DE Preparation of the ground based GPS-observations of integrated water vapour for assimilation Preparation of selected research observations during special observing periods for assimilation in COSMO-DE Running assimilation and forecast experiments with COSMO-DE in order to evaluate the impact of the individual observing networks Documentation and publication of results. Qualifications: A university degree in meteorology or a related subject (mandatory) Fluency in English (mandatory) Experience in developing large scale computer simulations Experience in either data assimilation, use of quantitative meteorological data (especially radar data) or numerical mathematics Communication and team working skills Competence to work self-reliant and take initiative Remuneration: The post has been classified as ‘Verg.-Gr. II a BAT’/ ’13 TVöD and the remuneration group has been set at ‘TVÖD 13’. The initial step within the remuneration group will depend on the personal relevant experience of the qualified candidate. The range of the remuneration starts at 2.817 € (1st step) and ends at 4.090 € (5th step).
