Seasonal Beach Lifeguard
This postholder will have responsibility for ensuring the safety of beach users in Fife in accordance with the Beach Safety Operating Procedures while working for Fife Coast and Countryside Trust. .
The posts will be based along the beaches in Fife at Aberdour / Burntisland / Leven & St Andrews, East
Sands
Job Purpose
To ensure a safe environment on Fife’s beaches with the provision of a Lifeguard Service.
To aid in the keeping clean of the foreshore and other associated facilities/areas.
Key Responsibilities
Patrolling the foreshore
The hoisting of appropriate safety flags
Initiating rescue procedures for bathers in difficulty, liaising with beach users and other operators
Administering first aid where required
Litter patrolling and checking of bins in the area to ensure cleanliness at all times
Promoting environmental initiatives
Maintenance of toilet blocks
Advising any issues as soon as possible to the Beaches and Coastal Officer or appropriate contact at the Trust headquarters.
The Person
The successful candidate will be flexible in their attitude to work practices and be able to work both as part of a team and individually. Being able to travel independently around Fife they may work at several locations. Experience of this type of work is preferable and successful candidates will have to attend and prove competence to the level of National Beach Lifeguard Training.
This post is subject to a mandatory Health Assessment and PVG Scheme record.
General
This post includes variable working patterns each week including weekends with agreed rest days
FCCT reserve the right to allocate other duties of equivalent grade and status as determined by the workload of the organisation.
Holiday entitlement (pro rata) is currently 24 days plus 8 days Public Holiday (rising to 29 days after the completion of five years’ service)
The Trust does not provide accommodation to successful candidates.
Performance measures
Demonstrate competence after in house training for the RLSS National Beach Lifeguard
Qualification including an independent assessment
Areas kept clean and free from litter
Toilet Blocks maintained to a high standard
Completion and recording of daily task sheets
Compliance with Beach Safety Operating Procedures

Society National Pool
Lifeguard Qualification
OR

Must have experience in dealing with members of the public.
PVG Scheme record – can be applied for if offer of employment made.
Knowledge of Health & Safety practices
Knowledge of local area ie areas of environmental interest
